I recently upgraded my gaming computer to an i5 4670k, gtx760, h87 fatal1ty mobo, and last night i added an h100i water cooler.

It was working just fine without the watercooler, but my prime95 tests shot the cpu to over 80c at stock. So i added the water cooler and everything was still fine for the night. Temps dropped to 65 full load. Everything was working great.

However last night i was playing WoW getting ready for bed and my whole system froze. Speakers stuck on a note making a constant sound screen and mouse froze. Nothing crazy. Its happebed before and never had any issues. Just restarted. But it was time for bed so i held in the power button to shut it off.

This morning i go to turn it on and it powers on at 1 second intervals. Off on off on off on. For 1 sec at a time. No beeps nothing. Just powers on and off. Corsair block light pulses with light as it turns on. What the hell? I guess i fried something. Anyone experienced this?

Unplug everything except what you need to get something to display, from the PC and the PSU.
Remove keyboard/mouse, hard drives, CD roms, ... everything.
If you have onboard video on the motherboard, remove the gfx card.
If it doesnt work, reset the CMOS.

See if you can at least get to the POST screen and work from there.
If you get to the CMOS, set up the memory voltage correctly if it isnt to spec (plug in the k/b first).
Check cpu and motherboard temps asap, with your fingers if need be.

It seems a1 and a2 memory slots died. So i cant even get max speed out of my board. I cant boot with either sticks in either a's. So i guess im going to jave to rma my board and wait 2 weeks to ise my computer? @%@%#`%@.

I git it booted with my 4gb ram but theyre on b3/4. so it's running in single channel memory mode. I read on tomshardware that it'd only be a ~10% performance loss and pretty negligible.

So I guess, live with a tiny performance loss or.....RMA my board and not have a computer for 2 weeks. Ugh.

Overclocking makes for expensive mistakes... :(

Time to RMA. Sucks bad, but if the board has problems, it can only get worse, not better.

I didnt oc it. I ocd it a couple of days ago 200 mhz higher than stock for about 5 minutes. Thats not the issue. I juat tried my games out and loaded some programs. I see no difference. I may just let it ride. Every thing i read says that dual channel vs single is 1-2% performance loss and in most cases, none. Ill give it a couple days but if im losing 2% memory speed and .0001% speed in my games...im fine with that.

Where did you get the board from? Can you return it and get another without having to go through the RMA process?

Do NOT keep a board that is experiencing problems which is still under warranty. It will most likely start to have more problems the longer you keep it.

So, you did OC it. Regardless of whether it was for 5 minutes or 5 hours you did take the board out of spec in some way. Something could have gone wrong, or maybe you ESD'ed it somehow and the problem has only just manifested. Hell, maybe the girl who tested the surface mounts in Taiwan missed something on an oscillo read-out, who knows? It's probably just a bad mobo ;)

I'm not really pointing at anything in particular to reach a "why" in this situation, just noting that your board has gone partially kaput and that totally sucks bad. You need to ride the RMA train or return that sucker! Don't keep using borked stuff.

Yea, same as I said, problems can only get worse... :(

I did oc it. Just saying thats not the problem. That was two days prior for 5 minutes. Such a tiny oc. Didnt stress it or anything. Just checking out the mobo options. I dont really want to lose my computer for two weeks if this board will be fine after that problem. Evetything is working fine now. We will see.

Yes, do continue to ignore everyone else's but your own opinion despite you having posted here in the first place for advice.

How am i ignoring their opinions? I read everything and take it all into consideration. Apparently i should feel bad for doing what i want? How is my view that terrible? Everything works great so i should send my board back?

Yes I did ask for advice on what was going on with my computer and I appreciate everyone weighing in. Except you. You only replied to try and make me.......feel bad for doing what i want which is very logical. K

Actually all he was pointing out is the fact you were coming off, regardless of intent, as rude in tone and seeming to ignoring the other multiple posts saying to send it back either for an RMA or an outright refund as the issues will likely only get worse. Much less the ones pointing out that any OC, regardless of the amount or duration, has the potential to damage something. Saying a 'little oc doesn't count' is akin to saying you got someone a little pregnant but it doesn't count, either you did or your didn't there is no in between. The best you can do is minimize the potential risk and accept that it could happen but it will never be a non-zero percentage.

This sort of thing is why I'm personally still on the fence about it despite the potential savings if successful as if it goes bad it'll end up costing me more to replace the fragged hardware then I would have saved in the first place. Granted others do it not for the cost savings but for the same reason people hotrod cars to see how fast they can go knowing full well the potential risks, ie just because they can. To them I tip my hat as its frankly downright amazing some of the things they can pull off.
