Hey fellas- Well, just swapped out my 500gb Scorpio drive in my laptop for a vertex 4

got windows 8 installed and everything is running as it should. Reboot times are the biggest difference, and opening apps seems a little snappier as well.

What do you guys recommend to use for monitoring the ssd drive. I know there's a lot of programs to use. I downloaded ocz toolbox and it gives you a quick print out of the smart drive, and you can use it for firmware updating, but I would like a overall good constant monitoring program.

Also, I have read about the tweaks with disabling page file and indexing, etc. Are these things really necessary? I know about trim and disabling defrag, but want to know about the other tweaks. Thanks

There really is nothing you can do. SMART will not predict a controller or firmware failure. And the NAND wear out turned out to be totally overblown. It's actually very hard to wear out a modern SSD.

None of the tweaks are necessary or productive. Most of these were based on the false premise that you could easily wear out a SSD via normal usage. Defrag will be disabled by the OS.

Hey man thanks for the tips....I really thought that 2 regarding your last post...There are a lot of overblown myths concerning ssd's and performance/wear and tear. I am from the school of thinking that I will use my ssd like any other hard drive-set it and forget it and enjoy the performance increase. I really don't want to have to worry and tweak on getting the best performance, and a lot of these tweaks are coming from 2010-2011 back when they had new controllers and ssd'd were still not very mainstream...
 
Rerun WEI, disable indexing, check to ensure defrag is disabled. Enjoy.

You don't even need to disable indexing, I personally have indexing turned ON with my SSD systems as it does improve search speed quite a bit, even on an SSD.
 
Personally I just use Everything as my search (there is literally nothing faster) and grep/PowerGREP for my content searching needs (finds more stuff than indexing).
