Hey guys.

I know the SMP client has always been intended for quad core and up. However, as we all know it has worked ok in the past with Dual Core setups. Is this still the case, or should I just enjoy my GPU and wait till I can upgrade my processor some?

Thanks.

if you run it now thats just more points that you wouldnt have gotten anyways

Go ahead, give it a shot later today to make sure you get th new 2.15 core

I got my e8500 at home chugging away now on a linux vm (-smp 2) with only a slight overclock (3.5GHz). It finishes each A3 I've seen before the preferred time. The same system also has an ATI 4870 running the GPU client if that says anything. :D

(Don't have any monitoring tools to tell you PPD however)

So question. Trying to instal this on E8400 (3 GHz).

I have params at -smp 2 -advmethods

It willl only pull down the A1 core. Any thoughts on how to get it to pull down an A3 core? Or will the new SMP only pull down A3 cores on Quad Core and up?

It seems to depend on the dual core.

Some of the chips are getting better PPD where others are seeing less than they were with A2 units.

My dual core laptop is pulling A3 work units. Did you put your passkey into the client?

I did put my pass key into client. I tried installing on another C2D Laptop and it is pulling down an A1 as well :(

My i7 has a A1.... not happy bout it.
There seems to be a mix of stuff out there.

My T3400 pentium dual core laptop has been grabbing A3s. Passkey with advmethods and smp flags. You have the 6.29 client right?

Must be out of them :(

I have it configured as others have suggested above. I could deal with an A2, but A1's are just plain inefficient :( :(

The faster the A1s are completed the faster they will go away. ;)

I also have a C2D 8400 @ 3.45 and it crunched on a A3 core (p6015) for about 20 hours. After sending the results this morning it received an A1 project.

Then it is decided. Tonight I will try to switch things over to the new SMP2 core. I finished my last SMP the other day and turned off the VM in hopes of switching over to native windows. I like the VM, but I just think it would work a little better with a beefier computer. My media streaming to the PS3 was getting killed by the extra hit on the system.

One last question. At the end when I am setting it up, what exactly do I need to type. Is it -smp2 -advmethods (and additionally -verbosity9 if I want to)?

-smp -advmethods <- this is all you need, -verbosity -9 is very helpful with troubleshooting later. You do not need to specify the number of cores to thread to with the -smp flag. Also, make sure your passkey is set in the config. Otherwise, you are all set to go.

p6015 (credit of 464 points) on a E8400 OC @ 3.45, completed in 20 hours with 85% of deadline remaining

Min. Time / Frame : 00:10:23 - 2,805.9 PPD
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:10:50 - 2,632.9 PPD

So once I complete 10 of these A3 projects, I would get 464 points plus a bonus of approx 2400 points? Is that how this works?

ok, thanks Tobit.

I was normally a 1800-2000 PpD under a linux VM with this CPU. The new SMP does more than the previous SMP.
