New sim city

I'm waiting for this one. LOVE the idea of the co-op feature, too...It'll be awesome to share resources and have cities work together for things like police patrolling, shared power grids, etc.

The DRM is a huge turnoff but damn, this game looks freaking awesome.

Looks good so far. This might be the first Sim City I played since the original for SNES.

And I don't care about DRM. Everything is headed that way anyways.

Until EA shuts the servers down 2 years after launch and you can never play it again since it's online only.

This.

So in a few years, when EA realizes no one wants to use their shit; then hopefully sells some of their sub companies who care for their customers, I might consider it.

I am excited about it. I used to love Sim City when I was younger but the game has gotten too big.

Anyway, still excited.

Sim City 4 is still good but runs like a dog even on a modern system.

I hate being forced to play online with other players. Its too bad they turned it into a MMO.

Sim City 4 and all the mods make this a no go for me. I love the franchise but I view it a step back design wise. On the technology front I give them a thumbs up.

It's an VRAM hog.

Online yes, but they've said you can create private regions, so not forced to play with other people.

The online requirement probably keeps it from being a day 1 purchase, I'll give them a couple months to fix the inevitable problems with the service, but probably won't stop me from buying it.

The simulation aspect looks fantastic, they're trying to build a living city with resources and consumption rather than a bunch of rather meaningless pseudo-random routes.

Is this what the Diablo3/AH experiment caused?
We saw what happened there... Oh well, good luck to them. I hope they don't forget they are making a video game.

Probably won't pick up due to Origin req, but I view the multiplayer aspect as one big annoying griefing opportunity - both intentional and inadvertent.

What if your neighbor builds a bunch of casinos and you get crime or a bunch of factories and you get pollution or perhaps worse they build nothing and your city is limited in how much it can grow...

ive never had an issue with origin, so assuming i have the money ill be buying it day 1.

I would guess that if they allowed massive amount of crime, pollution or similar that their city would soon become deserted and it would have little effect on the others.

You can claim the area for a private game or invite a friend. If you have the option to let random people in, I don't know that.

Except, if you're actually wanting a city/region simulator that is completely what not happens. Only if you're wanting a video game. If citizens leave one area due to crime etc. they'll go somewhere else. If someone torches their immediate land value with crime/pollution it effects everyone in the area around it. You poor radioactive sludge into the lake, every town along that lake reaps the reward.

That is the whole point of a simulator-to model what actually happens, factoring in as much as possible. Anything else is just a video game. Just like what Microsoft did to their Flight Simulator in its last incarnation. You can make a video game out of a simulator franchise...but it'll fall flat on its feet with the very people who made that franchise.

I keep expecting to find this in the online only game

i pre-orderd it on origin today and got 5x $10 off promo codes and a Plumb Bob Park pre-order for free.

does anyone know wtf plumb bob park pre order is?

I'm gonna buy it for the simulation aspect... and the online aspect as well.

My girlfriend loves sim city and so do I so we can play together, it's a pretty cool idea (I mean, you kinda had that in SC2K but it never really picked up.

Also, the simulation looks freaking awesome, you can really SEE the traffic, SEE your sims get to work, etc that in itself is really cool and I can't wait to toy with it.

cripes, i didn't realize the game was purely online?! darn, i was looking forward to this. i've never played a single simcity ever but this one caught my eye. when i heard of playing co-op, i was thinking over lan or wan in peer-to-peer format. shucks!

i like the online stuff they added to it, but i do think there should be an offline option for those that want to play that way

the game's not finalized yet so we can all hope. *crosses my fingers*

Love that they put a German theme to pick from in the Deluxe version. But the price...damn.

This is what kills it for me. EA keeps it's games working for as little time as possible so they can sell you the sequel a year or two down the line and force you to buy or quit playing.

Looks like you will need to give up gaming because DRM is here to stay.

No, we'll continue to play older games. Many of us don't need the latest and greatest constantly, and are perfectly content to enjoy what has already been released, if necessary. It's rapidly becoming necessary. :(

The online only killed any chance I will play it, if it was optional it would be OK.

2 years of fun before they pull the switch? Sounds good to me. I'm in. I've never played a game for more than a few months anyway, and those are RPG's where I try to explore as much as I can.

I want the game... love sim city.. but I probably won't have a computer capable of playing once the game drops.

(Need to sell the desktop to get a phone and I won't be bringing it with me when I move later in the year anyway)
