Just put together my first ITX system to replace my aging, noisy, hot, duron based WHS box. I used this slick little VidaBox case and I like it a lot. The swing out front door to access the hard drive bays is great. The build quality feels good; the drive carriages slide in and out easily, without catching or binding. The front door feels pretty solid and square, not wobbly and off-kilter. The PSU could have used some nice, tight, sleeving on the cables as they get a little cluttered but I guess that's the price you pay in a little case like this. The sound level of the fans is low but not dead silent. I can hear it gently whispering as it sits ~5 feet away from me but I'll accept a little noise to keep my hard drives cool.

The rest of the setup is pretty standard stuff. I went with this little Atom board as, theoretically it should meet the system requirements for Vail, Though who knows what they'll be when and if its actually released. But, dual core, 1.8 GHz, 64 bit chip will hopefully be future-proof enough for a simple file server. Then there's two, 2 TB "green" drives, 4 GB RAM..., you know.

At this point it probably wont matter, Vail deopped Drive Extender support so most people probably wont upgrade to it since it would require more drives so you can get your redundancy from a typical raid..

This is true, that's a big part of the reason why I built a new system now instead of waiting for Vail to show up. It either won't show up or, if it does, I won't use it. But, if it turns out to be ok, I'd like to think I could still get it running on this box.
