I am building a new case like my Crossflow but out of alum.

This case should be about 10" wide 12" deep (10" deep with a mATX)and Im trying for 7 to 8" high..

I really like the front of the X-Gene that dworley has. I also like the split in 2 parts part too.
I was thinking of putting the mobo/GPUs in the top part and the PS Hdds in the bottom, Kind of hinged like a clam shell.

Now I want this to be the Ultimate SFF case. So do I do as steeeeve says and use a mATX board or use a ATX like the CrossFlow?

I have a Biostar Tforce6100/FX-55 and 7950GT laying around to use for the mATX or I can use the Biostar Tforce SLI and 7600GTs.

What would you guys rather see. The mATX should be about 2" less deep and the cables will exit the rear. Where the ATX nobo will exit out the left side.

Also what do you guys thing of water cooling it, mabye using the case as a heatsink or the res..
 
I am awsome just no extra $$$ for parts...lol

I do have a Epia PD mobo, its just the Via 1000 CPU and single pci slot dont lend themselves to gaming :D

there is a Lan in Feb and I was thinking of showing it there. Winner gets a cover shot.

my vote is ATX. I love matx bc of the size but i would love to be able to fit a full atx system in the same footprint.
 
Whatever suits your needs. It's not my case... Are we secretly trying to continue the previous "discussion?" ;)
 
This case is not for MY needs its for you guys, so you can put ur hardware into easily with superior cooling/low noise and has to be reasonable ($)to build. And YOU have to like it so tell me the things you would want..

CrossFlow is finished, and I like it a lot. But a lot of people want Alum. I want to Mfg a specialty case (better than the Crossflow) and I dont think there is any better people to decide whats the best than you guys.
 
Wether you go for a mATX or a full ATX mobo IMO one thing the case must fit is a 8800GTX video card. Without being able to fit, power, and cool a 8800GTX setup its not going to be of much use to a gamer. Just something to consider.
 
Is the 8800GTX bigger than the 8800GTS?
I was wondering if it was better to have 8800GTS in SLI (ATX) or 8800GTX (1 in mATX)?

Also how do the X1900 cards compare in size to the 8800 cards?
 
the x1900aiw is about the same length as the 8800gtx. other 1900's same length or so as gts. Yes, the gtx is longer.

Are you mass marketing your cases? Well ATX all the way. mATX has so far been a few years behind in the overclocking department. I would like to see something that could take a dual 120mm rad out the back as well. You could do it with an ATX case mounted sideways.

I was sure the ATX was gonna win out here, how bout a compromise, like Flyboat says a case that fits them both. And if its configured mATX I can throw in a dual rad H20 ststem in the extra space.
 
mATX. You can make it smaller if you have less motherboard. Just be sure to design it right, I would even reccommend using 1U server PSUs, laptop DVD burners, and laptop hard drives to completely chop down size. But of course, you need to design it with more than adequate airflow, so the case will probably end up with a wall of fans. :D

I have some sketchup designs for a mATX super-SFF case I was designing. PM me if you want to take a look at them to get some ideas.


I agree that your CrossFlow case is SFF, it is smaller than the MF.

Dave's simple logic for small form factor:
SFF \= tower (sorry, TJ08)
SFF size <= Micro Fly size. Anything bigger than a MF is too big. (I think the MF is pushing SFF)

CrossFlow size < Micro Fly size. Therefore, you are SFF.
 
The 8800GTX is 11" long. The 8800GTS is 9" or 9.5" long I forget which. Not many SFF cases can currently fit a 8800GTX without some kind of modding. You'll see new SFF cases get a little longer on the depth to fit the 8800GTX.

My design will easily fit 8800GTS SLI with a ATX or 1 8800GTX with a mATX.

I think building a comp for less than 1% of users is a waste of my precious resources
(I cant even afford a 8800GTS) :)
 
Due to the apparent lack of good C2D mobo's, I vote emphatically for ATX. Just my 2 cents.

I understand and respect your position but the 8800GTX will eventually work its way down to mainstream and lets assume for a moment all new high end nVdia GTX cards will be 11-inches long (nVidia and ATI havent shown a desire to go to smaller cards yet). Making it fit a GTX now will future proof it for the consumer. So in the long run it pays off to make it fit a big card like the GTX wether most can afford one now or not. Eventually they will get one. Just something to think about. :)
 
I see ur point , if you go mATX fitting the huge card is easy, but with the ATX mobo the case has to be 2" wider (and thats a bunch).
So since this case will be modular, I can make two seperate top sections. One for mATX (video card from front to back) and the other for ATX (video cards side to side). The bottom half is the same for both.
