New SFF Build :)

Hey guys, I am about to start building a SFF pc, I have always wanted to and have finally decided to now that my MB has gone out on me.

The parts that I currently have for my build

-q6600 (stepping B revision g0)

-OCZ ddr2 4gb pc6400 (2x2gb)

-Coolermaster 750w sli ready power supply

- evga 8800gts

-zalman 9700 cpu cooler


I was looking at the Lanbox lite as far as cases go. So I am just posting up for any suggestons on MB or the setup in general. I will be hooking this up to my 7.1 reciever if possible, would a PC do the audio over hdmi?
 
I recommend this mobo:
Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H Nvidia GeForce 9400 HDMI mATX Motherboard - $130

It can do 7.1 audio through HDMI. It also seems to be a pretty decent overclocker.

Case wise, you might want to check out the following cases:
Silverstone SUGO SG01B-F Black mATX Case - $70
Silverstone SUGO SG02B-F Black mATX Case - $80
Silverstone SG03-B mATX Case - $130

HSF wise, you're gonna have to ditch that Zalman 9700 since it won't fit into most SFF cases. I recommend the following HSF:
ZALMAN CNPS 8000 HSF - $40
Silverstone NT06-E HSF - $51

Well, I ended up going to Fry's today, I picked up an intel 35SEC mATX board, normally 100, got it for 50, not the best board in the world, but hey, 50 bucks ya know?? and picked up the SilverStone SFF case for 70, I love Fry's, they can be expensive for some stuff, but on other items they are very comparible to online retailers. I will start the install tonight and keep you guys updated :)

I was not able to get a heatsink, they only had a low porfile thermaltake that they didnt recommend because it had so many returns, I figured I would use the stock one or order a new one very soon, I will just have to check out the temps.
 
Just a heat sink plug for the Cooler Master GeminII - I've been using this in my Lanbox Lite without any issues. Its been awesome.

I don't know how well it would fit in that silverstone though..
 
I know you have it already but what's the point of a 750W PSU in a build like this. And by choosing that Intel mobo you're likely reducing (if not cancelling) your O/Cing possibility. Seems really weird...
 
Well I had an ASUS MB for over a year, could never get a good OC in a big case, sooo I just figured this time I would KISS. Also I already had the PSU, dont really have the money to go all out this time. Plus with the intel board, if I EVER decide I want to OC, its what a 50 dollar mistake? I can live with that, what would stink though is if I got a whole setup for OCing and cant get anything out of it like, like what has happened to me for the past year.

I don't know if it fits either, but CoolerMaster have a refurb GeminII for sale on their site for $14.
 
I have a GeminII in my SG02. Installing it is not for the faint of heart though. Should be no trouble to install in an SG03.
 
Well guys, got her all up and running today, all my updates installed, played some crysis and fallout, overall I am very pleased, my freezing issue I was having is completly gone, so it must of been my MB. I LOVE the case, overall my computer just seems to like this setup slightly more than with my ASUS MB. This setup should last me for a good year or so :)

My temps are slightly higher than I wish, but asking for perfect temps and a SFF doesnt really go together. Havent seen anything over 70c, even while playing crysis. I will try to take some pics soon and post em up.
 
Well I have been having not really temp issues, but they were making me slightly nervouse low 50s not on idle, 69c while playing crysis. I took apart my old PS3 airflow that I never used, took all the tiny fans out, and put them at the back of the case, I also added another 80mm fan to the side by the HDD closure, and finally I was able to fit a 120mm intake fan on the left side of the case. I am using a rocketfish cpu cooler, it is alright.

After installing all of these fans, my idles have went to 39c-42c. A big improvement. Its fun just looking for places to install custom fans.
