New setup, z680 and av710

Ok I have my z680's and av710 now
I have the 6 channel hooked up, and digital hooked up
i only have the 2 fronts and center hooked up because the speaker wire for the rears are too short
Would standard speaker wire from walmart suffice, or would the wire from walmart be lower quality than what came with the speakers? Im not worried too much about getting BETTER, i just dont want it to get worse...
So how should I use my speakers, when do I use the 6 channel direct and when do i use digital out? Or can I always use the digital out, or does it only work for some sources?

i got some 18 guage wire for the rear speakers and using the original 20gauge for the front, is it bad to mix speaker gauges
 
In terms of channels 1-6, the quality is ... well matched to the Logitech 640's

Channels 7+8 are quite nice. They are driving my headphone rig here at work.

You would do well to sell the AV-710 and get an Audigy 2 Value. As much as I hate to admit it, Creative still rules the gaming market.

[edit] Or just keep your AV-710. It's probably good enough.
 
the av710 was easy to setup and i got the latest drivers from via
so far the card sounds good to me but im an audio newb and cant really tell you how much better

should i use the optical out all the time? any special settings i should set in winamp to best take advantage of this

what would the audigy 2 have over the av710, just out of curiousity, it doesnt look that expensive, if its that much better than the av710 then im gonna regret not getting it >_<

It has no optical out unless its a platinum version from what I can tell.
However the platnum version's optical ports are at the front of the break out box..at least thats what it looks like...why the fuck put it on the front?
