Just got my stuff ordered for my new server.

NORCO RPC-4020 Rackmount Case
Asus M2N-SLI motherboard
AMD ATHLON 64 X2 5000 Processor
2 GB Corsair Ram PC -6400
ANTEQ TPQ -850
2 x Seagate 1tb Drives (139 shipped for zipzoom a piece) More to come obviously
Video Card from old computer Radeon 2600 pro (his)

Pictures to come

Still haven't got a controller card yet, but will soon

Dare I ask what 18TB would be required for? My god... I've got like 300+ store bought retail DVDs and I wouldn't dare take the time to put 'em on that, geezus. :)

Looks like 2tb for now and he'll order the rest.

So not quite in the club yet :)

I was waiting for that. :D I kept scanning his list thinking how could I overlook 18 Tb worth of drives.

Pics or it didnt happen :p

why did you order a SLI motherboard for a server? Are you going to be using a hardware raid card?

How many drives, or how much space do you need to be in the club? ;)

You are cool enough and have enough passion/space to be part of my club :p

Yessss. A Club Sweet.

No I didn't mean 1.8 TB I did mean 18 TB, but will probably build slowly. I only bought 2 drives from zipzoom for now because the price seems to drop $10 per week.(in theory next year they will be free....can't wait)

Will be running WHS with no raid, need the space and will have redundancy on the important stuff...

What will I use it for... Movies and Media. I have a whole house distribution system sent up that sends all my movies and things throughout the house. I have 1.2 TB Full on the two 750 GB Drives I have in my HTPC right now (probably will transfer one of those drives to the server.)

I don't anticipate filling it up to quickly, but its day will come when I need another. (unless the wife gets involved)

Just ordered the stuff from the egg so don't have pics yet.
Also can't decide on a UPS any ideas.

ya $285 for the case... case looks simple, and the backplane i assume doesn't do anything but just allow the HD to be hotswap (no raid or anything)... case is very basic in shape and materials. the backplane has ports to connect the SATA cable also..

I did the same thing with my new server..WHS is aweseom because i can add drives as I need them and save myself a lot of money...also with WHS no need for an expensive raid card.

Why is that case so cheap?

It just not as high quality as say a supermicro...still a great case though...also most server chassis are way overpriced.

BTW Can I be in the Club too???:confused:

Why is that case so cheap?

This is one of those few times when it's too good to be true. This is a great case.

Rackmount cases have long been overpriced heavily, this time, norco decided to punch the big man below the belt. Norco did this aggressive pricing many times before when most of you guys didn't even know they existed.

It's full hotswap which supports raid and other drive array functions. It also has error leds to allow the array to report dead drives.

It's just compeditivley priced, norco is known for this. This is an excellent build and a true bang for the dollar.

You could still do RAID with a couple of raid controller cards right?
EDIT: I guess so

Are there LEDs on the front to let you know which drive/s failed?

Also, is this THE price or is it a promo price?

Yes, you can stil do RAID with a RAID card.

No, each drive has a power led and usage led. Not that it's hard to know. Since you connect the cables you know what drive is on what channel.

This is THE price, not a promo price. I had been watching this case for a while before I bought mine and it hasn't moved.

Yes that is the price of the case. Read a lot about it before purchasing. (on ockies builds and what not..and a few others). I like it because it is so simple and has so much hard drive room. I am pretty busy and it had the setup I needed for the time I have to build the thing and mess with it. I did look at other options, but i didn't want to buy all the hotswap bays and fans separately (one case had either too loud of fans or not enough room, or not hot swaps)

Also, Raid has a lot of problems in WHS so I don't think I want to go that rout at all.

Thanks... I read tons and tons about everything (holy crap you have like thirty some odd pages on all of your builds ---who needs novels:)) It really helps me to see the parts other people used and a lot of people want to know how they can build a server for a good price, but also have decent performance. I wont claim the best performance but it will sure do the job and I think my cost was around
Case = $289.99
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB = $37.99 with rebate
Motherboard = $129.99
PCU = $66.00
PSU = $139.99
Video Card = $69.99 (already had though...but for reference)
Hard Drives = $280 (2 seagates 1TB Each)
WHS = $159.99

Total So far is $1173.94

Then a couple of controller cards when time comes $400

Then another 18 or so 1TB hard drives. $2519.82 (139.99 each---hopefully cheaper when I buy more)

But the great thing about this case ...and any hotswap case is I don't have to buy all that hd space right now.

That case is a beast for the price, I might have to look into one of those after I fill the other 3 HD spaces in my current case (not counting hot swap bays I could add to the 5.25" bays)

I haven't quite decided yet as I currently don't have enough hard drives to necessitate one. I don't really need a nice one, just something that has Sata II ports I guess just to hook up more drives. I was hoping maybe an 8 port one for under $200, but no luck thus far . (PCI Express)
