New SATA, windows install question

Hey, i'm kinda new to having SATA drives in my computer. I can't seem to get the windows installation CD to see the SATA drive. I don't have a floppy drive, so I can't install the third party software like I've read. Will a external, USB floppy drive work?
Also, just for now I have windows on an IDE drive. Windows can detect the SATA drives, but can't write to them

For your first question: Unfortuantely, the F6 drivers procedure is extremely poorly coded, so it looks for an old school floppy drive with the 34 pin cable hooked up via the Super IO chip. However, there is a way around this... You can slipstream your RAID drivers on to your CD. There are plenty of great guides on how to do this that Google will find for you.

On your second question, Start\Run\diskmgmt.msc. You may be greeted with an inialize and convert wizard. If so, initialize all of the disks, but convert none of them (these are the default options, you can just click through it). After that, right click everything that's unallocated to start the process of creating partitions on the drives and formatting them so that Windows can use them to hold your data.
