New SATA, no drive?

Okay in my PC there are two drives both SATA the second one I only just got however under My Computer it doesn't appear so it is not ready to be wrote to. But it is noticed under Add new Hardware. I think it needs formatting.

Anyhelp?
 
Yes, it does need formatting.
Start>My Computer (right click)>Manage>Disk Management
Click on your new drive (which is showing up as "unallocated space") and Format.
 
Formatting now, thankyou for your help.

Oh and one other thing, why does it show up as 298GB, when it is 320GB?
 
Because harddrives manufacturers advertised GB is in Base 10(1000 bits to a kilobyte) numbers, where actual compter GB is in base 2(1024 bits to a byte) numbers. Over large drives that difference adds up pretty fast.
