i just fiished my computer build and installed everything and have been running it for like 3 days now.

today i was defragging the c: drive and at around 80% i paused it so i could go play some counter strike. either way... about 30 mins into my game it froze and i couldnt do anything...i couldnt do ctrl alt del or nothing....so i turned it off...turned it back on and it windows went through the disc check thingy before it loaded into windows.

it fixed some things and once i was in...alot of my stuff was gone and my desktop was completely gone(none of my original icons except like 2)

so i was trying to see where things went but then it froze again...
turned it off and checked connections...turned it back on and froze again...

what is going on....

bad drive?

well...i restarted like 10 mins later and its working fine so far...
im worried it will happen again...

all my bookmarks are gone...desktop icons...
some of my information on various programs...

i wonder what happened

Did you do the Memtest86-Prime95+3dMark test to check your hardware out ?
Freezeing in games could well be heat related as its one of the few times its under full load.

I would first run about 3 loops Memtest86 to check your memory for error.
Then run 8-24 hours of Prime95 to stress the CPU.
Then add the 3dMark stress test on top of the Prime test to stress the vidio card as well.
Keep an eye on your temps as you stress your comp as they my get a bit high.

If it pass that stress test then I would start looking in to if you have a bad drive or not.
Your hard drive manufacter should have a drive checker program you can download.

Luck........... :D

ive been playing counterstirke before this happened and for longer durations than the 30 mins i did today.....shouldnt it of happened then if it was heat related?

i will try the wd diagn. tests to see if it passes

you think pausing the defraggging and running a high load (gaming) mighht have corrupted files and causing the freeze?

I too think this was due to pausing defrag and then playing a heavy duty game (something I myself wouldn't do).
