new sata cables

I was thinking about buying new sata cables for my hard drives, right now i'm using the standard cable that came with the motherboard.

I was thinking abou getting some shorter, so called "sata2" cables, I know that there is no such thing as sata2 cable.

only difference it seems that manufacture claim better EMI protection, also it has metal latch. Are those cables more secure? also does the metal latch work with all HDDs?

There are two types of SATA connectors. One has just the center tab sticking up, the other has a retention donut around the center tab. The metal latch hooks onto this second type to keep it from pulling loose. It has nothing to do with the throughput of the drives connected to it.

This second style came out around the time "SATA-2" drives and controllers did, so some manufacturers started calling them SATA-2 connectors (along with the matching cables).

i know it has nothing to do with speed, I just would like a better more secure connection, and was wondering will that Metal Locking latch work with most sata drives

I'd like to see some 4" black SATA cables in the market, it seems like those would be a great seller. Right now all I can find are 4" red ones.

I'm using the "SATA2" cables with the metal latch on a 74gb raptor SATA1 drive. It works fine and holds the cable into the drive better. I'm assuming it will work on most all SATA1 drives as well since its a standard interface.
