This thing is definitely a monster. Dual Optical drives!?! I guess it's due sometime in Q4 (October or later). The graphics card remains a mystery, but I'm guessing it will be the Mobile 6800go (NV41M). If it's not Nvidia, it will be a mobile X800 (M28), probably similar to the MR9800 but in a PCI-E version.

EDIT: Ok, I see it's already been mentioned in the MR9800 thread, but this probably deserves its own thread anyway... :p
 
I have alwayed loved Sager's notebooks. They always provide top notch hardware at reasonable prices. I think they make the laptops for Voodoo or Alienware, dont remember which one though....

Sager's ODM, Clevo, Used to make the Alienware Area-51m and they make Voodoo's 17in P4 laptop.

If you want light, get a PDA or one of those useless laptops with no graphics power. :)
 
What is killing me is exactly why they are not building them like this but with mobile athlon64s! I swear it drives me up the wall. :mad:

I'm sure they will, they're just waiting for the PCI-E chipsets, which are now shipping or soon to ship to manufacturers of desktop boards.

THE NVIDIA CHIPSET codenamed the CK8-04 will be revealed to the world in the middle of October.

Two companies, two big ones, already have A02 silicon that seems to work just fine and are ready for final production motherboards.

Well, what the heck, the mobo firms are MSI and Asus but we are sure that they will be happy to deny it officially.

This means that Nvidia is finally on the right track to introduce its K8 chipset and its three variations in Q4 just as planned.

ATI to launch RX480 AMD K8 chipset by the end of this month

At the end of this month, ATI Technologies plans to unveil its RX480 north bridge, which will be the company’s first discrete chipset to support Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) K8 platform, said Reuven Soraya, director of platform product marketing at ATI, during a recent visit to Taipei.

The RX480, which will also be the first K8 chipset to feature PCIe connectivity, will be built using a 0.13-micron process at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to Soraya.

With a number of PC OEMs and motherboard makers starting to roll out products featuring the RX480, ATI aims to be become the largest supplier of PCIe-enabled K8 chipsets within one year, Soraya stated.

The Sager 9860 is finally up for pre-order. The first orders are due to start shipping next Monday, November 8th.

We should finally see some reviews of this machine and the new mobile Nvidia Go 6800 next week.
 
They start shipping today. Not sure of the test system used, but a Sager 9860 beat a desktop 6800U on Doom 3 :eek:
 
It's definitely got the ponies. But I sure as Hell wouldn't want to put it anywhere NEAR my "junk" I've worked on Dell desktops equipped with Preshott processors, and the size of the radiator in that machine makes me wonder how in Hell they could make a Portable cooler for the damn thing. Sager makes a good product, but you definitely want to keep your "junk" away from the underside of this beast.
 
Actually, if you look at the review, they did some noise and temp comparisons to other Sager models and this one runs quieter and cooler in most of the tests.

You should still keep it away from your "junk" though.
 
notebooks like these are the definition of the term "desktop replacement". they should just call it a desktop with an integrated flatscreen display and a battery backup. dont get me wrong its fast as hell, and id love to have one, but for me it defeats the purpose of having a laptop if it only runs for a little over an hour on battery power.

wow, that laptop is a beast. finally there are mobile video cards that are performing on par with desktop cards. i'd like to see these mobile cards used with dothan cpus in a smaller laptop, like in a t42p, that'll kick ass.
 
The problem with that is the fact that the card in that machine is half the size of a desktop card :eek:

Unless, HP makes such an announcement, I would seriously doubt that. The Go 6800 requires at least 2-3 times the power of the X600 and is also not guaranteed to fit or be able to use the same heatsink as the X600, so don't count on upgrading unless HP specifically states they have designed it to fit certain upgrade cards.

If it is designed for upgrades, I would bet the upgrade part would be something like an ATI Mobility X700 which probably should be out early next year. That would be much closer to the X600 in power and cooling requirements.

Oh, I just found this thread at the ZD7000 forums. It sounds like it may not be upgradeable at all.

Well i just recieved my November copy of PC Mag and the ZD8000 is in the buyers guide portion. They stated that the GFX chip while PCIe (pci express) it is not upgradeable.

well, I was sort of expecting that since hp has been always behind
oh well
hopefully they have a 6800 go as an option but thats unlikely
