New router, internet slower?

Hey guys, i had my lines serviced today by Comcast, and during them working on my house my modem took a dump and was longer operational. I asked the technician if he had one he could switch mine out with and he didn't. So since i had to pick up a new modem from the local office i decided i would upgrade my aging Belkin 802.11g router with a shiny new one. I bought a Linksys E-1200, by no means top of the line but i figured it would be a step up. So i am sitting at home now and my internet feels just a lot more sluggish then it used to. Is there something i'm doing wrong, all that came with the modem is an instillation disk, and i cant find any relevant settings. If you guy's could point me in the right direction on what to do please help me!
 
try your old router with new modem and see if its the router or if its a junk modem. most of the time they give out lousy modems because its whatever they could get cheap from the manufacturer. and also yes make sure your firmware on the router is up to date form the manufacturer.
 
Is the modem the same model as your old modem?

If not, what is the model of the old modem and the model of the new modem?

The router could be faulty. My brother-in-law just recently returned a brand new Cisco router because it was having all sorts of problems - slow, disconnecting, no connection, etc.
 
The 1200 is a very entry level model, not sure if it was much of an upgrade from that Belkin G.
Ensure latest firmware
Manually set MTU to 1500
Make sure you've unplugged the power from your Comcast modem for a few minutes..so that it "forgets" the MAC of your old router and properly reconnects the new one. If you have Comcast voice...gotta remove the battery from under the MTA as well, because simply unplugging the power will not do it.

You don't need that installation disk...all management is done through the web browser.
Are you benching this online via wireless or wired?
The router is capable of around 90 megs of throughput, slow by standards. And its state table is small, only about 8,000 connections. Recommend trading it up for a better model ...E2500 or better yet E3200.
