New Rig

Bah - everything is in my hands today except the damn mobo!! It's still stuck in UPS limbo...with the intel p67 micro possibly on its way i'm wondering if I shouldn't just use that instead of the asus - if not swap out for a previous gen cpu/mobo combo?
 
If the newer ordered stuff is getting through then the previous ordered stuff should be going through as well. In fact I'd think UPS would push the backed up stuff through first before anything else.
 
Packages ordered before this one and some that shipped out the same day as the mobo were all delayed in mesquite texas due to weather. I've received everything but this package.

I ordered a Sugo SGO1S-F from Amazon Prime on 12/21/10 and it got here last week. It was lost in the FedEx system and I let Amazon know about it prior to Xmas and they next day'd a replacement to me. I asked what if the other one shows up, they said to keep it. The outside box was all beat to hell, but the case box and case were prime; really a beautiful silver mATX case, going to use it for a charity auction build sometime this Spring.
 
Just a bad time to be shipping stuff. The southeast is getting blasted again. Although Mesquite should be good now, they may just be hugely backed up because of the 2-3 days of frozen roads.
 
So I get a knock at the door, it's UPS @ 8:30pm, I get really excited! It's a BOOK my GF ordered! I say man, 8:30 you guys are rocking it today huh?

"Yeah we're backed up."

He leaves, I curse the demons that are UPS about not having my mobo...I check the tracking page (which has become my favorite web page of late) and lo-and-behold it has arrived in Dallas! Should be here tomorrow if I'm lucky (guessing Monday though) and if heads to the Austin facility tonight!! Here's hoping it was safe and snug rather than kicking around the warehouse!

EDIT: Doesn't look like it will be today - probably Monday :( unless they are going to deliver on Saturday due to being so backed up!

SOooo I began the build out today, I just can't wait any longer :)

Here is my setup before (R1 M11x hooked up to the "24 Soyo/Logitech G15/G9)

Plan is to mount the monitor to the wall (mount is coming today, new 27" Monitor next week or so) as well as the speakers, if I can find good placement.

I couldn't get the provided Corsair bracket to work in a 3.5" bracket, not sure where they think it's supposed to go (floppy area maybe?) - it fits snugly in the hotswap bay (rests againsts the case itself, I'll probably tape it down =D

Pretty sick PSU, you going to SLI/Xfire?

I found a P8P67-M Pro from another user so with any luck I'll be building mine out next week as well.

Got everything in hand except RAM and mobo. So frustrating but hopefully it will all be worthwhile.

I did get to tack a few etailers onto my shitlist because of this fiasco: Mwave, Electronica Direct, and AVADirect/AntaresPro. All claimed to have the MB in stock but failed to ship it.

Eventually I will Xfire, I always do as a stop-gap as I've always skipped a gen and SLI/Xfire instead. Main goal of the build is to keep it as quiet as possible while having a SFF as it will be at ear level and the AX850 fits the bill.

Mwave cancelled on me as well but understandably so, they don't want to deal with any more CS call than they need to, right?
 
The Motherboard has arrived!!

Everything is installed - booted, went to bios, setup boot priority and am installing windows...so far so good.

As it is my first time working with a Micro ATX/SFF I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Toughest issues with this case is cable management, it's a bear, I have no idea how I am going to get all these cables to lie flat, especially the power cables...sata connections were also a bit tough to get too with the PSU cables in the way - there is a clear route the case PSU cable could run, straight out to the other side behind the lowermost fan, but for some reason they didn't make it that way.

Nice, my mobo and RAM should be getting here tonight or tomorrow. Have you updated BIOS (err, EFI, right? :p)

Let us know how it goes with the board and overclocking and stability and whatnot.

As far as working in the case I've worked on Shuttles and laptops so I think this GD05 mATX build should be a walk in the park :)

So far so good...ran into a few problems with the LAN adapter after driver installation, windows wouldn't see a LAN adapter installed, that seems to have righted itself after the BIOS update (running P8P67-M-PRO-ASUS-0601 BETA).

Running windows updates, getting drivers in place, etc. before I start OC'ing.
 
I put together the bare essentials of my system too, no disks yet, just wanted to be sure it booted and everything fit.

One problem: the 6-pin PCI-E connectors on the GTX 285 prevent me from putting the lid on the case, so I've ordered some right-angle extensions which I'm pretty sure will do the trick.

I can't believe how quiet the GD05 is. Pretty much inaudible from 2ft away. Idle temp is 40C with the Big Shuriken's 120x12mm spinning at 800RPM, that's with AS5, and probably not my best application ever, hopefully will stand up to some overclocking once it starts to cure.

The case is performing as I had hoped, the footprint is small enough for my deskspace and will allow me room to mount my 30" monitor on the wall without any obstruction (I'm working with limited built-in desktop real estate).

Working in it as I assume it is with most SFF systems is tight, especially if you need to go back in and say...get a serial number off your MOBO for a recall ;).

The finish is nice but I'm not impressed with the fit of the panels, the left side panels seam doesn't seem to line up as well as the right side does with the rear panel, and occasionally there can be some serious vibration from the dvd spinning up (touching the left side of the case even with the slightest touch stops it), slot load 'foam' seems a bit stiff. Everything fits, long VGA card, H70, regular PSU, etc. As I noted above cable management is a bit tough, they could have done some more routing, e.g. more holes from side to side for better pass through, but overall it's not too bad.

I'm quite pleased - now if I can just get my i5 to overclock i'll be in business.

Need to slide the monitor over a bit to the right to slide the left speaker back a bit, wrangle some cables, but otherwise not a bad fit.
 
Nice! I finally got mine all buttoned up, no need for PCI-E power extensions just a little elbow grease :p

Only problem is now I have to go back in and swap some of the SATA plugs around because I got the order wrong.

But everything fits (just barely). Had to use a SATA power extension to get the optical drive plugged in because the spacing of the connectors on my modular cable wasn't right.

Thing about the GD05 is, they really don't want you using right-angle SATA data connectors, and forget the ones with clips. Just get the plain jane straight connectors at both and and you should be good.

Going to take some pictures and make my own thread so I'm not hijacking yours :)
 
Played around and got the running @4.4GHz, flashed the HIS 6950 to a 6970 @ 900/1400. Stress testing yields a bluescreen at random, so its looking like I need to tweak a bit more.
