im building a new 939 rig and i need a psu to go with it. I wont be goin straight to SLI so i need enough power to upgrade.

And this is what im getting:

Case - Antec P180
CPU - Athlon 64 3000+ Venice
Mo-Bo - DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR
Ram - OCZ Dual Channel EL Series DDR400 (CAS 2-3-2-6) 2*512
Video Card - BFG GeForce 7800GT OC 256MB
HardDrive - MAXTOR DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB
DVD-RW - LG GSA-4163B (Black) - 16x DVD +/- R / RW / RA

OCZ Power Stream 520 Watts http://anitec.ca/default.aspx?mode=product_detail&pid=3625
or
SEASONIC S12-500HT 500Watts http://anitec.ca/default.aspx?mode=product_detail&pid=3184

will 1 of these be enough power to go SLI later or would you guys recomend something else?

I found a Rosewill 500w with 34a on the 12v rail at newegg that had great reviews...and it is NOT loud using two 120mm fans in it....it is ROCK solid so far on the rig below.....I think the Rosewill is a rebadged premium unit.....

I'd hate to say it, but neither.

Try looking for a dual 12V rail PSU with at least 2.5A on the +5VSB and let us know what you find that you like.

note that newegg will always have good reviews...
theorist states they delete bad reviews

Rosewill isn't all that great those are those PSU's that when it dies the rest of the PC dies. something from Fortron, Butterfly, Antec, or Coolmax should suffice.

Rosewill isn't all that great, sure.

And any power supply, when it dies, causes the whole computer to die. That's sort of the nature of a power supply. Your computer needs power, so if the power source dies, the computer dies. Yes.

But if you're saying that Rosewill's blow up and KILL entire computers in their path, I suggest you go back to Generalization Land where you came from. ;)

I mean... You've got Coolmax on your list of power supplies you suggest over the Rosewill for goodness sake!

Ok. This place is starting to give me the giggles. I'm going out back and firing up the grill.

Ever used one? How would you know then? The better Rosewill units are better than your average, in fact, I had a "good' Enlight power supply that was weak on the 12v always....

You have to actually try different products to make a useful comment on it....and coolmax? Pfttttttttttt... You make fun of Rosewill?

I'm curious, something wrong with having 2A on that particular rail? I see many units with 2A on it.

The new ATX12V standard is 2.5A. That and the OP is using a DFI board. There was a post on another forum that Oklahoma Wolf linked us to that showed that the "intermittent post" problem with some DFI boards is a lack of juice on the +5VSB. The overload causes the power supply to trip.

Now, naturally my suggestion would be to just not do a DFI board. Why throw the baby out with the bathwater? OP already has a DFI board, so let's make sure it has 2.5A on the +5VSB so there's no intermittent post issues. :D

Personally, I've never had an issue with "only" 2A on the +5VSB, but then again I use motherboards from Asus and MSI and other similar companies.

back to my question...

in the sticky it says the ocz psu is good for the DFI board and you say its bad? what psu would you recommend I use with the DFI board

I don't think it's "bad." I just think it's time to move into a dual 12V rail. Not everyone agrees with that idea. Heck, I used to be anti-dual-12V rail too, but I've grown very comfortable with the concept over time.

doesnt the SEASONIC S12-500HT 500Watts have dual 12v rails?

Yeah, but it only has 2A on the +5VSB and as Dave can tell you.. there's been a few people with problems with that power supply and the DFI Lan Party. As I was explaining; someone had figured out that the motherboard was putting too much load on the +5VSB and it was causing the power supply to trip.
