Im making a new rig and heres the componenents i have chosen at the moment:

Intel Core 2 Quadro Pro Q6600 - £375.99
Asus P5W64-WS Pro Intel 975X PCi-express DDR2 mobo - £170
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C3 TwinX (2x1gb) IS THIS GOOD??
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme WaterCooled 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £552.24:cool:
Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (0A33437) - £88.11
Enermax Galaxy 1000W EGA1000EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU - £229.11

And a custom WC setup .. any good? What should i change?
thanks

all looks good. you probably don't need that big of a power supply though. take a look at the 620 watt Corsair. it has excellent reviews. I got its small brother. that should be a rock hard system!!! :D

Thanks alot.. the only reason i wanted the 1000w psu was because it has the new ATX2.2 for future systems so i though that wouldnt get old too quick ?

Hi,

The Q6600 has a locked OC multiplier, and while you can lower it on an nForce 680i board, I don't think you can on 975 hardware. The reason lowering the multiplier would be useful is to increase the FSB speed beyond what you could with the default max multiplier. Not that it will be necessary to achieve your max stable overclock, but if you're investing in a water cooling setup, then why not buy a motherboard that gives you the most overclocking flexibility?

If you choose 680i, get an eVga A1 model, which works best with Quad Cores.

Good luck,

Mark.

Personal preference, but I'd opt for the seagate 7200.10 drives instead of hitachi.

Reason?

Try calling hitachi tech support (3 yr warranty, btw)
Now try calling seagate. (5 year warranty)

I also agree about the PSU maybe being overkill, but.. then again, I'm running 8GB of ram, so I can't say much.

Alternates might be the PCP&C 750w, but the enermax psu's are great.

I'm too lazy to figure out what your currency exchanges to in dollars :), but the PCP&C is only $199 us,

LASTLY, I'd say, if you can hold off a little while, the cpu price cuts are going to come into effect REAL soon (some already have) so you might be able to get the cpu for a lot less.

What do you plan on running the system at? Most likely, those dominators will be a waste of money. Whats the max OC on a Q66? 3.3Ghz? Thats a 366Mhz FSB, which would mean DDR2-667. So if you lower the CPU multiplier like Mark Yip suggests, the best price/performance you'd get would be with some DDR2-800 sticks. Stick to the non dominators if you go with Corsair... the Dominators are extremely overpriced and not needed unless you need the high overclockability -- which you most likely won't with that CPU.
