Thought I'd share some specs on the OC I got with my new computer with an E8400.

Asetek Waterchill
Antec P182 Case
Corsair HX620 PSU
Asus P5K-E/Wifi
Enzotech MOS-C1's on the top MOSFET's
Waterblock on Northbridge
E8400 @ 4.15Ghz - Waterblock
8GB OCZ PC8500 (OCZ2RPR10664GK x2)
EVGA Geforce 8800GTS 512MB
Razer AC-1 PCI Sound Card
4x WD SE16 640GB in RAID 10

Windows Vista
No Vdroop mods (yet)
Speedstep on, C1E on, Vdamper on
VNB, 1.25V (stock)
VSB, 1.05V (stock)
vMem, 2.10
Memory, 6:5, 1106 @ 5-5-5-18
FSB, 461
CPU, 4149
Vcore, 1.375V
Vdrop, 1.352V
Vdroop, 1.344V
Idle Temp, 46C
Load Temp, 63C
Power @ full load: 280W

I'm happy with 4.15Ghz staying within Intel spec 1.35V and <72C, but I also want to see if I can push it to 4.5Ghz (out of Intel spec, of course) if there are any suggestions... I know the board can do 500+FSB perfectly stable, but if I try to set the multiplier past 8.5 it can't handle it.

I can get into windows with:
FSB, 500, CPU, 4500, Vcore, 1.475V, Vdrop, 1.452V, vdroop, 1.444V
Orthos fails in under a minute time, and other apps tend to crash.
I don't know the load temp as I can't keep it loaded, but I assume it's close to my 4.3 Stable @ 76C.

I'm nervous setting the voltage higher as the temps are so extreme under load already (aside from the voltage being high for a 45nm) but I think it can do it (as I have windows loading)

I have a stable overclock at 4.3Ghz as well (Vcore1.45V,Vdrop1.432V,Vdroop1.416V), but the load temp is 76C on water - a bit too hot for my liking.

It seems my main limitation is getting heat out of the cores and into the water block itself, as temps will shoot up instantly from 46C to 70C+ when I start orthos and settle at 76C after 30mins or so.

Right now I'm using the Antarctica Water Block that comes with the Waterchill system. Arctic Silver 3 as TIM. I haven't done any manual lapping of the sink or heatspreader... anybody think that will do enough to drop 4C off my load temps from 4.3Ghz?

PS: I couldn't find many people showing RAID stats for 4 drive arrays - so if anybody is interested in certain RAID settings on an ICH9R with 4 WD SE16 640 drives, let me know and I'll try to bench it for you.

RAID 10 with default stripe size gets me about 235MB read at the start of the drive and 140MB read at the end with 13.5ms Random Access (HDTach)

76C on water is pretty ridiculous...what are you using to measure temps? You should be using Real Temp, not Core Temp. I wouldn't go past 1.4V or 60C, whichever comes first.

Your idle temps should be around 25-28C, not 46C. Especially with C1E and speedstep on.

45nm get really hot with slight voltage increases. probably because everything is so close together, but I can only guess. It still seems pretty hot tho.

4.5 is probably too high without upping the voltage past 1.5v. Some sites did reviews, and on all of them it took almost 1.6v to pass the 4.5ghz barrier. On water I suppose that kind of voltage is OK, but if on air 1.4 CPU-Z should not be passed (1.45 set in bios for me anyway)

I'm using coretemp - I thought it looked a bit high.

Idle & load for stock speed (3ghz) is 46C flat.

Realtemp is reading 10C lower than coretemp.

Check out the first post of this thread. It will help you calibrate RealTemp to get more accurate idle temps.

Unclewebb has made a believer out of me. He has put a lot of effort into his program. RealTemp will show 10* difference, because the TJMax is lower. This doesn't change the Delta to TJMax, which is the important number that any OC'er nows to watch. It just gives you closer to what the actual temps are for your processor.
