I decided to up my PC audio game a bit and got the following:

  • YAMAHA RX-V867 7.2-Channel Digital Network Home Theater Receiver
  • Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Powered Subwoofer
  • Polk Audio RM8 Satellite speakers
I also have some pretty nice Altec Lansing satellites that I'll use as surrounds eventually. Moving on...

I got some cables from Monoprice as well:

I have Realtek HD Audio onboard sound. I used the TosLink optical cable to connect to the receivers AV1 input. I connected my satellites with speaker cables to the Front Speaker connections, and I connected the receiver's Sub1 Pre-out to the sub's Line-In with the RG-6 RCA pin cable, I set the Optical out to the default sound device on my PC. Then I set the receiver up for 2.1 sound, two small fronts and a subwoofer enabled and I powered on the sub. However, while I get audio output from the satellites the sub gives off no sound whatsoever.

Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

Well, nevermind... the sub is working now, the cable must not have been seated in all the way. Sounds pretty good :)

They were set to small ;)

Already solved the problem though, the RCA cable was just a little too snug to fit on all the way, unplugging it a few times loosened it up so that it seated properly.
