New Real-time x850 ATI Ruby Demo

I just got an email from ATI about the release of the new X850. It should be interesting to see how it performs compared to the X800 and 6800 series cards. I wonder when they will be available....maybe for Christmas time!!!!

Although the Ruby demo(s) are cool (I've only seen the first one)

*looking around* where's that Farcry tech demo!! :D

I watched the video of this earlier this morning, pretty cool if you ask me.

Downloading the demo now, I wonder if it will work on a 6800U, heh.

The new Ruby demo is pretty spiffy. It runs smooth as silk on my rig. How many others out there didn't see a difference between the motion blur and non motion blur screens?

I'd post pics of the Crytek demo but it takes too long to load and im too lazy. Runs at like 16fps average on my pc with min fps of 0 (kept stuttering at points) and maximum of 28. Used default settings of 1024x768 and 4xAA. Looks pretty, but I dont think lights are supposed to be that bright. Crytek building must use 1000watt bulbs or something. Someone with an x800 and a half decent high end computer (since I'm guessing it requires one as the loading times are shorter than hl2, but still too long for such a small demo) do a comparison with 3dc on and off.

Let me know how this looks :)

I'm at work right now :(

Ok, I ran CryTek's The Project demo on a 6800U with 67.02 drivers, I had some problems.

1.) There was hitching/pausing.

2.) The Depth of Field was not working correctly, it did not have smooth blends from DoF to regular, and parts that shouldn't have been DoF'd where, it was like a harsh transition from Depth of Field to regular. It was definitely not working right.

3.) The water wasn't rendered correctly at all, it was just a solid color of translucent blue.

Other than that the demo was neat, I guess you'll have to run it on an X800 card to see all the effects correctly.

Just ran the FarCry demo and it is unbelievable. I kept sitting there asking myself "When is this rendered movie going to end so I can see the demo?" Then I hit the "w" key to force wireframe. Wow!

demos require RADEON® X800 or RADEON® X850 series graphics technology in order to run.

and yet... it runs fine on an nvidia geforce4 mx420 go with 16mb shared vid ram. yes... my lappy is that old.

Very much doubt you're getting even half the demo effects with that card.

Anyway

1024x768 6xfsaa and 3dc enabled

TechDemo
Frames: 8116 - Time: 240969ms - Avg: 33.680 - Min: 17 - Max: 55

I think crytek has found a new future not in games, but in the movie industry :)

imagine a cheap and FAST solution to render movies at almost the same quality as CG graphics

i think it would be awesome to see this power coupled with 3dlab's cards and acheive breathtaking quality in real time

ok i ran fraps on it and got:

Frames: 12303 - Time: 252734ms - Avg: 48.679 - Min: 26 - Max: 70

It appeared to run extremely smooth with no hitches, it was run at 1024x768 and 4xaa (default settings).

for reference my 3dmark05 score is 6200 and i get about 63fps in doom3 at 1600x1200 noaa noaf timedemo demo1

ran it again with aa turned off, it stuttered at one point, probably a sneaky background process interfering though as it didnt happen again:

2004-12-01 19:18:33 - TechDemo
Frames: 16195 - Time: 252158ms - Avg: 64.225 - Min: 1 - Max: 105

i just ran it on my 6800gt at default settings, there were a few pauses but was mostly flowing thru

an oddity i noticed was that there seems to be blooming applied to certain areas of the screen, and not others. the area affected is changed to cover a certain person, but i think it is doing that to drop quality & increase performance

Min: 1?

Define 'runs fine'. ;)

opens and runs with no error message, and further is not so pixellated that i have to squint really bad and drink beer to figure out what the image is supposed to be... it also didn't noticably raise the comp's temp above idle (106.5 F)

the thing is this: when playing any game that's 3d, unless it's a flashmedia game, this lappy's usual action is to play it at about 5-10fps while running at about the same temperature as the nuclear reactor at chernobyl's did during meltdown. the fact that there was only slight image degradation while remaining at idle temps was astounding to me.

Hahahha, we have very different definitions of 'runs fine' then :p

trust me... at that resolution and image depth... this creaky old craptacular lappy runs hot enough to bake a turkey on. the fact that it didn't this time has me planning a party, just about.

Am I the only one that still thinks Ruby looks to much like a lumber jack dike?
I wanna see the Farcry tech demo....even tho I hate Farcry LOL

Yeap...just you ;)

OH MY GOD!
Both of these demos kick look SO good.

The ruby demo is just...freakin cool

Farcry..the texturing is insane!
I can't believe that's the farcry engine! that's freakin awesome

*yeeeah! 3Dc!*

Just downloaded it and watched it, and all I can say is GOD DAMN.

I'm not one to get overly excited about anything, as I've been through far too much hype and such, but I do have to admit, that shit is amazing.

The motion blur in the Ruby demo, the background blur, and lighting effects in the CryTek demo. If this is what the future of gaming is, I can't wait. The motion blur (when viewing split screen) really shows a difference in IQ and overall quality and realism of what you're seeing.

The lighting effects on the CryTek demo and the blur of the backgrounds really adds to the cinematic feel of it. I really am impressed with it all, didn't see this kind of quality coming. The original x800 demos weren't so impressive, but these are amazing.

I can post some 1600 or 2048 screenshots if anyone is interested.

^^ *nodding* no S! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The first ruby demo...egh..ok..wasn't blown away. This one...WAY too cool.

And the crytek demo, hopefully we'll see games like that soon. I mean at default 1024x768 looked great.

btw what the CryTek demo uses is depth of field, looks really good with it

also, a game that is currently out that uses Motion Blur well is Need for Speed Underground 2
