New Razor 14"

The last two would get so hot at times you couldn't touch them to type wonder if it really is better. They said that last time lol.
 
Looks interesting though. A great spec sheet, but can Razer actually deliver?

Pretty much everything I wanted (though the screen res is a little insane....) except for not having 16GB of ram. Honestly for that price, ram is dirt cheap for 2x 8GB cmon Razer. :rolleyes:

Most excited to see how well it holds up in real gaming tests with that sexy 880M though. :D

The RAM is soldered to the motherboard. They just may not have had enough room for the extra chips.

I have the RB14v1 and I have yet to experience this. Does it get hot? Yes, especially at the hinge, since the air exhausts from there. Does the aluminum around the power button get hot? VERY. Does the keyboard get hot? No. And I use my computer in a relatively "warm" room (~80*F).

I am pretty sure that they have already proven that they can deliver. I own last years model razer blade and I absolutely love everything about it, except for the screen. Seeing as how that has been significantly upgraded with this release, I will definitely pick one up.

Damn really? Must be made of money, or you find that the screen is really lacking that much. I'm on the v3 boat: Broadwell, screen, Maxwell, 16GB, and Displayport. If they just waited for Broadwell and instead of HDMI used Displayport/Thunderbolt, I would pick one up as well.
 
Look, Razer was just appealing to the hardcore gaming crowd. With the old blade you could cook hot pockets without ever leaving your computer.
 
This is a Razer laptop that is finally justified by its price. The older models was selling at ridiculous high price while using cheap OEM parts... shameful.
 
So long as that GPU/CPU combo doesn't melt the system from the inside, the new Razer looks like a pretty sweet (if expensive) deal. I certainly wouldn't mind a system with MacBook Pro stylings that can play Titanfall as well as a good desktop.

That's definitely the appeal to me. I'm torn between a MBPr 15" (when they refresh) and this. Only reason I'd go for the MBPr is that I can use it for work too (programmer)
 
You're basically looking at desktop gtx 660 level performance in a 14" laptop which is mouth-watering. The 870m has the shader count of gtx 670, but only 192-bit bus.

Having had a second gen razer, I can say the laptop is sexy as heck.

I'll be interested to see how the heat solution copes with this chip (which from my experience with a 780m and 680m can be quite a exigent).

You could look at the Dell XPS 15 too. Their refresh has really helped it a lot, nearly identical form factor and specs to the rMBP. It is also user serviceable while still being as thin as the rMBP and Blade. I don't buy that companies can't still make a serviceable laptop and keep it a good form factor anymore. The Dell has user replaceable RAM, Wireless, HDD, SSD, Battery. Basically everything you used to expect to be able to replace.

This is my worry with these small compact laptops is the cooling doesnt look that great, i know the new 800M series is supposed to be very low on power usage but still..

I've had such shit experience working with IT with anything not Dell business class. They have a long way to go making amends with me. :p;)
 
Finally, someone is making "MacBook Pro competitors" - for those who want minimal compromise, wanting luxe materials, hardware power, aesthetics, and battery life. My old laptop is getting a bit long in the tooth, and this could certainly be on my list of possibilities.
 
That 870m is going to be a hot beast. It's going to be really hard to keep under control. The 860m seems to make much more sense even if it is only 70% of the speed.

Yeah, I'm not sure how they increased the heat output by 33%. TDP of the 765m was 75w and the TDP of the 870m is 100w. I have the RB14v1, and unless the fans are covered, they don't ramp up that much. I'm guessing that the fans now probably ramp up much more and go full power on full load. Mine definitely don't go full power even when gaming (ambient temp ~78*F).
 
Maaaan, this thing looks amazing. When the first Blade 14 came out I thought it looked great except they shot themselves in the foot with that garbage screen. Epic failure. Now, they have made up for it in spades with an IPS (FINALLY) high DPI screen. And what looks to be a pretty powerful GPU. 1600x900 (3800x1800 quartered) is probably a great sweet spot for the GPU too you can probably play modern stuff on med-high with half res (minimal interpolation). Unfortunately it looks like the screen surface is glossy? I wonder how reflective it is.

Also wonder if Razer gave up on waiting for Broadwell... does this refresh mean it will be another full year or so before we see a new Blade with 14nm Broadwell and 20nm Maxwell? That combo would be mighty solid in terms of getting more battery life, and also reducing the heat produced by the high-end performing chips...

With my 2009 13" MBP going on 5 years old I'm kind of in the market for a new laptop and it's really tough. I don't really want to leave the Apple orchard, but the rMBP13 will never ever have a discrete GPU and the 15" is just a little too big for my tastes. Not to mention that the GPUs in the 15" are always just a little too weak for serious gaming too. But I don't really want a windows machine that I will use for things other than gaming, and this laptop is pretty expensive to be a pure "gaming on the go" item.
 
I agree with Ruahrc, this looks awesome. I have a 2011 Macbook 17 inch and getting tired of lugging it everywhere I go (I use to do more coding that required such a beat of a laptop). I think this is a better choice then going with the rMBP as I do tend to game while on the road and I seem to spend more time in Linux/Windows then I do in the Mac OS.

I just pre-ordered one and cannot wait to get it.

The reason the dell xps 15 can fit a 91Wh battery inside, is because it's that size and not only 14"



razer should scrap the 17" that no one wants with that silly side icon board, and make a 15" version of the new 14, with at LEAST a 91Wh battery inside.

People have been breaking 8 and a half hours of usage with the dell xps, razer could do that as well, with a MUCH better looking chassis (come on dell, that laptop is so plain and frumpy looking) and a better gpu.

That is their in, if they offered that no one would even be considering the dell or the retina mac unless they just wanted osx

The problem with this is that they would have to do away with the 14 inch model also and fully redo their line. It doesn't make sense to have a 14 inch laptop and 15 inch laptop. They would probably have to redesign for a 13 and a 15.

This isn't an argument about whether 14 or 15 is better but basically saying I wouldn't hold my breath for them to redo their line like that for at least a few years.
