Ok, first time im using SATA.. my current HD is IDE so im a nuub with SATA.

anyway, I have one new raptor, i plan on using as the boot drive.. Do i need to install anytype of drivers from a flopping during xp install or is that only for raid or older bios?

thanks

Only for RAID..just make sure you set to boot from SATA....
The best way that I have found is to also just leave the IDE drive unplugged until your all set up.
Then plug it back in..

Depends on the chipset. Some SATA/RAID controllers, such as the Silicon Image 3112, have two different drivers for RAID and IDE(single) use.

I know this is a simple answer, but if you can install your OS on the SATA drive, you are fine, but if not, then you need to get the SATA driver (or possibly the RAID driver, as tuskenraider pointed out).

for the raptor, what is the best noise dampening solution? mines really really loud and when i have the case window/door on, its really loud and sends vibrations up the side of the case. I am using rubber grommets.

My raptor 150 is pretty silent. I cannot hear it in my Antec Super Lanboy. Are you sure the drive is not producing a grinding noise?

how can i tell the difference between a grinding noise and a the "regular" one?

its SOO much louder with the case window on.

it sounds like grinding in my case but not when its out in the open, not touching anything
