new ram wont post, tried everything!

amd 1600+ palomino
msi ms-6390 KM266 Chipset
brand new stick of Mushkin pc2100 512mb from Newegg

I have tried to manually config the timings and have tried both dimm slots. I have also tried fail safe and optomized defaults in the bios.

Every mobo does beep codes.

Do the fans spin up? If not, it is a short somewhere or the mobo isn't getting power.

A couple of suggestions:

1) Check all connections, especially power connectors and IDE.

2) Put the old memory back in and if it works, then you know something is up with the new memory and RMA it. :)

3) Pull any (new or old) memory out... if you hear a continuous short beeps, that means the memory isn't present, but the system is 'prolly okay.

I would suspect something other than memory... you have the dreaded "hands inside computer" syndrome.

yea it should have error codes, maybe the speaker is disconnected.

If your old ram is working fine, check the new ram stick for physical damage (stupid but sometimes it does happen) Make sure you have a good contact with the mobo, and maybe try clearing the cmos.
 
My mobo doesnt do beep codes.

Yes the fans spin up.

Old memory works, i think i just might have to rma the new memory.

It might say newbie cheeze next to my name, but i know what i am doing. ;)

Does sound like RAM to me.

Model and revision of mobo? That might help.

model is msi ms 6390, link in first post, rev 1.0
ok, i cleared the cmos with the jumper, i get post but cant load os.
also after clearing the cmos and trying to load optomized defaults, no post.

The FSB jumper setting is right by the cmos batter. Btw it has a speaker connection, but you're right on the error codes. Pure oddness.

Glad to see my last reccomendation got you to a post, thats certainly a start :)

Edit to clarify make sure your FSB jumper setting is proper, you should have your mobo manual laying around somehwere. If not they have it on their website. Was your old ram older ddr?
 
yes my fsb is set to 133 wich is correct for a 1600+ palomino.
yes i have the manual, that is how i found the cmos jumper.
my mobo also has an onboard speaker, so having a external speaker would be redundant, no?

once i clear the cmos i get post but i cant load optomized defaults or fail safe. after post it gives me the option of continuing or editing my bios setting because i cleared the cmos. but even if i dont select anything and just reset it wont post.

hmmm...

sounds like your memory doesn't like some setting in the BIOS.

You might try modifying the memory settings in the BIOS (as in setting them to really relaxed settings) and try it then.

At least it boots. :)

Ok i tried super lax settings and super tight settings, no post on either.

When i press f1 to continue after a cmos reset my computer freezes when trying to load the os.

WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!

Ok, i got it working now, YEY!

well the solution was i said fuck it and changed a bunch of stuff in the ram timings i knew absolutely nothing about, and it worked!

The one i changed was HCLK changed that from auto.
