Just upgraded my extra machine with a core2quad and went ahead and grabbed a Radeon 5670 since they were priced right.

First, basic machine specs:
-Asus P5B Mobo (latest beta bios to support core2quad)
-Win7 x86
-MSI Radeon 5670 (always nvidia cards until now so go easy-I'ma ATI noob!
-2gig ram
-Sammy Syncmaster 940BW 1440x900 and ancient NEC 1280x1024 LCD

Here's the Newegg page: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127477

Anyhow, I first installed the new cpu and booted up with the old 7600GS card that was in there, first things first, I wanted to add hardware one at a time so I knew when something was going wrong. All is well, I have 2 monitors hooked up. I then install the 5670 and detach the old NEC and hook the samsung monitor into the DVI connector on the card. Boot, computer boots up normally but the monitor never comes out of sleep.

After an hour or so of musical chairs with the monitors and vidcards I have the 5670 back in the machine hooked to the Sammy monitor with the dvi connector. Boots into windows with no signal to the monitor until it gets to the Win7 loading screen with the godawful blue background. The monitor now appears to turn on randomly at some point whenever it gets to the win7 boot and login screen and is at 640x480.

When in Win7 I cannot get it to run at anything above 640x480 and it is only seen as a PNP monitor. I loaded the Vista driver for the monitor and nothing, still 640x480.

The kicker is I can shut down and hook up the old as hell NEC lcd with hardwired power and vid cable with the old vga connector on it, attached it with a DVI adapter, and it boots fine and when I get to win7 it sees the proper monitor and runs great at 1280x1024.

The end result here is this Samsung monitor wont even display until win7 is almost to the login screen and when in windows it will go no higher than 640x480. I tried to manually force the inf with the "browse for a driver on this computer" deal but apparently you cant do that like in previous OSes. Win7 apparently cant see its a 940BW for some reason.

So, I skimmed through the forum earlier and saw some issues with the 5000 series dealing with signal strength to the card and people were getting BIOS updates from a support person at ATI. Could this be a similar issue?

It really would be unusable for me if I cant see the bootup process or would need to get into the motherboard BIOS. The driver issue in Win7 is maddening also but I'm thinking that might fix itself if there is a BIOS issue with these cards. Any kind souls out there have any ideas or advice?
