Does anyone know when the New Quad Cores i.e Q9450 and Q9550 are hitting the market?
I read that the release date was Q1 08 and We are already at the END of 1st Quater.
So when?

A few threads down, there is a topic stating that the Q9450 is hitting in about two weeks.

Q9450 ship date is the 17th of March, according to the Q9450 thread.

OK GREAT!... So its just a few more weeks... I'll have to check with ZipZoomFly when they have them in stock.

Im excited because the Q9450 and Q9550 have 12MB of L2 Cache!

My guess is with the way the 8400 is goin, the price may be a little higher at first.

I think if you buy the first or second day they hit, you will find them at MSRP. Judging off what the E8400 did.

Now im getting confused... Dont know if i should get the Quad QX6600 for $199 (at Microcenter) OR wait for the QX94550 ($315)?

There are a lot of differences especially in price. and im sure the QX6600 will be a better Overclocker!

I'm guessing the Q9450 will be closer to $350 for a few weeks.

It's the Q6600 and Q9450, they're not Extreme processors.

The Q9450 may not overclock quite as well as the Q6600 due to becoming FSB limited, but based on a review of a Q9300 overclocked to 3.5GHz which generally outperformed a Q6600 at 3.6GHz, I expect an overclocked Q9450 would be faster, because the Penryn architecture does slightly more per clock, and the Q9450 has more cache than the Q6600.

However, equally, the differences between them aren't going to be night and day either.

good luck finding them "at launch" though. the 8400 evaporated quickly, and doesn't seem to be refreshing in channels like it should... i'll bet the q9's are even rarer.

Those prices listed above are in LOTS of 1000. So buying 1000 Q9450 will net you a price of $316 each.

The performance of the Q9450 will be "somewhat better." But from a price/performance ratio, the Q6600 at $199 is the clear winner, and will be for some time.

Now, for the e-penis crowd, go and get your Q9450! No wait, the Q9550 is a little better yet and ONLY $214 more. Walk, no run to the store and throw your money to Intel. ;)

Im Betting it will be in the $400 range until at least May.

By May these will be in short supply *mysteriously with no explanation and $450 at newegg . Oh yeah and Microcenter will be selling them at $299 instore.

I dont think that the new Quad cores will run out of supply like the E8400.
Not a whole lot of people are buying the Quads.

MicroCenter are blasting out the Quads for 199, and a deal like that should
have expired in a few days but they are still running them till supplies last!

Although if there's less demand for quads, Intel will make fewer of them and use more 45nm capacity for dual-cores?
