Hey guys, just put together my q6600 rig, GA-P35-DS3R, 2 gb G.skill pc6400 HZ, 8800 GTS 640 mb, Zalman 9500cnps. Idle temps are in low 40s on all cores is that reasonable(coretemp+intel tat:I get 30 idles in speedfan, this is what bios reports as well)? Not sure how to measure the load temps. B3 revision. How long is good break in time before OCing?

if your idle temps are 40c idle. And you plan to o/c I dont think youll get much a performance boost since they cpu will run quite hot.

b3 steppings run a little hotter then the new g0 steppings.

If you want to stress your cpu Orthos / Prime 95.
Orthos : Run 2 sets of orthos
Prime 95 : In part of the options, there a way of enabling stress on all cores.

ITAT is good for recording temps. as well as coretemp

Your HSF might not be cooling the hot b3 quad well enough to think about clocking it. IMO.

In the bios it says cpu fan is running at 1600rpm is this the max speed? I have the fan power directly plugged into the mobo, no fanmate thing.

SmartFan was enabled in bios turned it off now running at 2800 rpm... OC'd at 3 ghz idle temps are 43-46 degrees, load highest I have seen is 62 degrees after running 3dmark. Think I can go to 3.2 ghz?

Update.. At 3.2 ghz 400x8, idle temps 47-50C, Load highest was 66 degrees. think this is good enough for me ;p

Is 3dmark running on all 4 cores?

You need to stress all 4.

Really? I also have the Zalman CNPS9500 and running idle at 50 to 50+. Actually, if you're using speedfan, you need to add another 14degrees to your 4 cores. I found that out from some other thread on here and also found that out when I use Everest Home Edition and the Speedfan temp on the cores are off by 14 to 15 degrees. On full load, you will definitly get around 70+ °C.

It's time to get a new heatsink my friend because anything OC over 2.9GHz will crash/BSOD.

its at 3.2 ghz and idling 44-46 now.. Max load on orthos is 72C im sticking with it ;p

my bios reports cpu temp is 36C and so does speedfan, is the bios wrong or what? is there a post explaining the temp reading tools and what they are actually measuring?
