New PSU, same cables?

Hi all,

I just got a new Antec HE 550 to replace my SP-500. I put the new PSU in and then, instead of rerouting all the cables,just used the old SP-500 cables. Is this safe? They were both braided and look similar, but I don't know if the cables make a difference.
