Replaced my crappy mushkin 550w PSU with a corsair 620W. Spent way too long trying to cable manage my P180 so I really don't want to take things apart again... but my rig doesn't post now.

All fans and everything start spinning but I can tell something's wrong when the graphics card fan goes to 100% and stays there. No video, no post, nada.

It would do this before with the old PSU, actually, but booting a second time would always fix it. Now it stays this way.

Any ideas?
 
update: I managed to get things to work - it turned out to be the optical drive. How that works I have no idea... but having the IDE plugged in prevents POST.

Time for a SATA optical?

And, heck with it. Go SATA. No real benefit, aside from cable management (that I'm aware of)...but they're cheap enough, and it's nice to be liberated from IDE cables.:D I like this one, myself:

I agree w/ your choice.. I just bought that one myself.. No issues as of yet.. The cable mngmnt is a big plus..

I experienced a similar issue w/ a Lite-On DVD/CD-R drive in my parents machine last week.. It caused all kinds of flaky madness.. BSOD's.. resets.. sometimes no POST.. Swapped it problem solved..
 
Gah! I don't know what's wrong. This morning I tried to boot up and again it won't post. I started disconnecting things one at a time and still no luck. The only think left in the board is the video card so I could see post messages, but still no luck. I'm confused because it was pretty much working fine last night sans optical drive.

So then I started thinking: my ide connector is right next to the CMOS battery and it wiggles around a fair bit.. could this possibly be the cause or am I out to lunch? I'm running out of ideas.
 
I had to take my board out of my case to get the battery out, which blows. But after clearing CMOS things seem to be going okay. Horray.
