New PSU:Active or NON-PFC ?

This is quickly becoming the most misunderstood PSU feature. All ATX 2.03 PSU's use some form of PFC, otherwise our 300+ watt PSU's would be more useful as space heaters than providing a stable source of power.

The question is, is it inactive or active PFC.

IMO, active PFC is overrated. The "theoretical 95%" efficiency or "power factor correction" in all their marketing docs is... just that... theoretical. If the total watt output of the PSU is huge, yes, it may help the unit stay cooler, and yes, it may save you a few pennies on your electrical bill each month. But again IMO, the jury is still out on whether it adds significant real-world benifits to a noticeable degree.
 
Two misconceptions about PFC:

1. It does anything for your computer. Wrong, it's mostly for the power company, not you.
It also doesn't help your power bill, because the meter measures watts, not voltamps
2.It won't make your power supply run any cooler or more efficient. In fact, the circuitry in Active PFC PSUs takes some electricty, so it might make your PSU less efficient.
 
:confused: So, is it correct if I say, at PC level use it does not matter thing...................,
.... but if you have a building full of EQP drawing huge amounts of 3 fase AC, it certainly going to make a diff to your bill.
I have seen such special EQP installed at the AC 3-Phase entry/distribution boards.


I have Aopen at moment, which gave me no problems in 3x years in part of world where AC is not perfect, thats why I want to stick to Aopen again, must say I have Over/Under Voltage /Load/Freq protection trip with delay of up to 120 seconds installed as of last year, which of course trips if necessary....No damage so far to anything..

The trip costs actually more than the PSU, but I like the delay-off action which you can set with a dipswitch.
