Hello,

Starting today a new version of Folding is available. This version is a minor fix to the previous 1.3 version and adds a better tuned algorithm that handles peak performance hours of Folding@home network, by acting differently to certain network errors if those occur.
It is recommended that you update to the new version by quitting the application and restarting it. Your current WU will not be damaged in any way, in-fact Folding will continue from the exact point you have stopped it.
Please also check the official Sony Folding site here: http://www.scei.co.jp/folding/en/update.html

We can already see a stabilized network activity for the last 5 days. With the new update we are certain that the network will continue to be stable for good.
At this point I would like to thank people again for being patient and continue to donate to our project while Stanford & Sony was working on the fix.

Thanks,
Noam

I'm trying to resist buying a PS3 this weekend and you posting this here is not helping.

Good news however.

So here is a question... I have my PS3 using the official Sony folding client, has anyone tried running Linux on the PS3 and running the SMP client?

Doesn't work. When you install Linux you do not have access to all of the system's resources. The official client is optimized for the hardware.

Dang I was sure that the only resource that was unavailable was the RSX, its just the smp WUs are worth so much more than the PS3 WUs :(

Even if Linux had access to the RSX/Cell, you'd still need a ported SMP client to run on that hardware. It'd be very slow.

Would be nice if they gave points based on FLOPS instead :D

Oh and on that amazon PS3 thing, you can probably get another $30 off if you apply for the amazon card =p

Means I could get another one for $224 with my $25 gift card !

When are they going to make a folding client for 360!

From what I've read the 360 CPU is even more restrictive then the CPU in the PS3. I'm not sure they can run enough WU's on it to make it worth it.

Go ahead and get one. :D All the [H]orde gladly provide permission...
I love my 40GB model (upgrades to 160GB drive). Silently folds for 900ppd
and you can watch Blueray movies (unfortunately, not while folding). However,
you can listen to MP3s while folding. :)

Those are sweet deals. Go for it.

Fold on.

Just downloaded the new PS3 client, following aldamon's directions (above).
The WU was preserved intact, and the console is folding for the cure.
The whole process took about 10 minutes.

Fold on, [H]orde.

Just upgraded myself, again no issues, crunching away with the new client. I wonder how big the PS3 client is, this thing takes FOREVER to download.

Now that that's done, maybe they can get around to all the uncredited WUs from that first week when all the problems started.

Anyone know what changes they made to this release?

Anyone know what changes they made to this release?

I don't see anything different in the updated PS3 client, except for the change in version number
and possibly smaller font? during the startup. I was hopeful that the new client would allow one to
select the music to play with the music option, but not yet...:( So, I think it was just the network
fix that is mentioned during the update process.

My WU finished and uploaded another without a hitch.:)
[Edit: Another seamless WU upload/download this morning.]

Fold on!

Man I can't wait to use my birthday as an excuse to get a PS3....will be nice to finally play ratchet and clank and get some nice cheap PPD
