Need some help on what theme should I go for in my new project (full tower), has to be original, so far am running out of options..... any ideas anyone? :(

If I could offer a tip or two, there are some things to keep in mind. Try to plan it as much as possible. Cases always seem to be a work in progress, but that can lead to mix and match mods. Those can really mess up your case if you don't have a final vision in mind. That could be picking a few colors and sticking with them. For example, red lights would be good for a strawberry shortcake mod. : )
 
something that still hasent been done much is integration of controls systems into the computer for making an animated case. Kinda like how a CD/DVD drive opens up when you click eject in windows. So far we have LEDs that correspond to power and HDD activity. LCDs for everything from CPU temp & fan speed to full color secondary monitors.

How about something further using small hydraulics, servos, motors, etc, and controllers? Imagine a case that when it reaches a certain temperature, all of its panels open up like a car that overheats and blows it's hood? How about a case with wheels and steering controlled via RC so at a LAN event you dont have to carry the bugger...just steer it with a remote? How about an integrated web cam for ID/security as far as acess and power on controls. Get the idea? There are many 'automation' things you could do. Myself?

I am currently working on making the RC case. I gutted a RC track car and will integrate it into the bottom of an aluminum cube. Im even going to have a horn.

Great ideas undertheradar, hydraulics would be a big pain because its weight but I'm considering neumatics.
I'm able to add all these features BUT, the theme is the question,(i.e car overheats and blow smoke; the theme is cars? or a particular brand?)..... that is what is ticking me off; got to find a real unique theme.

Themes that I've considered:
1. American Legion
2. Department of Justice
3. ark of the covenant
4. ancient architecture (i.e. Rome)
and so on...

Got the idea??? :confused:
 
well, along the car lines, a really tough mod would be to integrate some of the extreme hydraulic/pneumatics that the lowrider cars/trucks have. Imagine how hysterical it would be to flip a switch and see your computer case pop up on wheels, tip to one side, then start bouncing on it's back wheels! You could have some light effects, windows with the little dingleballs and plush velvet interior hanging down...fuzzy dice...a custom mini-car club - case moddin club sign. And a big caddy-like gold car grille on the front for some true huchiango bling. LOL. Id like to see that!

Think about it, how much computer moddin really owes to those who first started with their cars.

-try to fit a cpu in a motorcycle helmet
-football helmet
-tuxedo theme
-with all the half life and doom cases out there, im shocked to not see any more UT2003 mods. Some of UT2003-2004 buildings would be really cool mods.
-A TRON case with EL patches in blue or red...maybe even a 'frisbee' and light bike on the side or top.
-Predator Computer. Those funky LED/LCD texts that the predator has in has forearm keypad. Cool organic armor. Red Triangular Lasers, funky unknown technology looking thingys.
-Wooden Shipping crate with funky shipping stamps and a kind of indiana jones theme.
-Lord of the rings mod. Too many ideas to list here. Just watch it and think to yourself..."I could put a computer in that"
-A case that looks like one of the many vehicles from the C&C series.
 
How about a PC modded into a desk drawer. All you will have on your desktop would be a place to plug in your monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. It would be cool to have slot loaded opticals usable through a cutout in the desktop.

some of those ideas are the ones I've been playing with also...... even I thought of installing all the components inside a lazyboy sofa and just add one of those positioning arms for the monitor.
the predator case was also one of the top ten, but was not so original since you can find many cases like that.
lately got the idea of creating the tower of the lord of the rings which could be 4 feet high with a laser beam on top with a rotating mirror like a lighhouse beam.

I don't like the mini-ATX computers, old school I guess; anyhow, got to make up my mind soon or I'll go nuts! :p
 
How about an ultra modern acrylic castle? I have been toying with this one for a while. use 4" acrylic tube at the 4 corners, and join with 10" wide peices of sheet...and a full acrylic bottom. The psu gets mounted in the center back, the CD/DVD-ROMS + floppy get mounted behind the spring-loaded drawbridge. The mobo gets open air in the center courtyard. Off to either side on the walls go the HDDs, window modded to be seen through the sides. The front two towers are water res's, and the back two towers are radiators (dected and modded vertical inside the cylinders, with 120mm fans modded in the top of the towers as blowholes. Two pumps are mounted in the case next to the PSU and CD-ROMS. The two water cooling setups in one are to handle the chipset + CPU seperate from the HDDs and GPU. All the Acrylc would be left smooth on the outside, but painted from the inside...leaving windows where you actually wanted to see in.
 
Very good ideas from Undertheradar, and Willowhack is right, some sketches would be awesome to illustrate our ideas.

The Halo/Halo 2 theme seems original. Not many PC people do the whole halo thing. Maybe with the original's covenant spaceship purple thing? Do some drawing on the Motherboard with a flouresent pen. Flouresent purple would be hard to come by though.

I also like the desk mod idea. Sounds original and very practical. To still have your whole desk surface and have a computer.

FWIW, the 'theme' or setting of Riddick is a creation of H.R. Giger...the dark artist who created such beasts as Alien, Aliens, etc...Species, a few others, and the whole set design for Riddick. He did cover art for Blondie back in the day. He designed the Harkonnen furniture for DUNE, and even spun it off into an international bar theme (the giger bar). He designed Jon Davis's (Korn) ultra cool mic stand that he tours with. He is perhaps my favorite artist, and has many other works and styles, all just as cool if not cooler, that you might want to check out for further ideas if you like Riddick's style.
