New project after restarting client

When I shut down the client to restart the computer (or even just to desktop) and then start the client again, it starts a new project. I thought previously it would pickup where it was. I have the checkpoint interval set to 4 min. Is this a new change, and if so, what is the checkpoint interval for?

Hmmmm..... that should not happen. Can you post the FAHlog-prev.txt here? That should help shed some light on things.

Its possible your checkpoint interval is too short, If you shut down the rig and it hasn't finished writing the checkpoint files out, they get corrupted and are then unusable. Personally I would change the interval back to 15 minutes

i have real bad luck with checkpoints. Pretty much anytime i shutdown the client the checkpoints are corrupt when I start it back up and the unit is lost.

When I have been forced to shutdown the client, I have had very good luck with the following steps:

  1. use rsync to make a backup of the folding directory just before stopping the client
  2. use kill on the fah6 process and not the a3 or a5 core process
  3. Before starting the client, run rsync from the backup location to the main folding directory

Doing these things, I have not lost a WU.

I'm out of town for the night, but both times I noticed this happening were on projects that had 200,000 (units? forgot what they are called) instead of the ones with 50,000. So maybe it is an issue of not having time to save the checkpoint. I will extend it back to 15 min and see if it goes away.
