As I have the QX6850 with an unlocked multiplier, is it okay if I have my multiplier higher and a lower FSB (400Mhz)...

I am using DDR2 800 RAM and I was wondering if there any possible way to get an overclock between 400*8 and 400*9 or 3.2 - 3.6?
What would I set my multiplier to?

I understand you should use a 1:1 ratio, but what does that mean?

1:1 ratio means if you set your CPU FSB to 400 (as in 8 or 9 multiplier times 400MHz = 3.2-3.6GHz), your RAM should match this 400 (as in 800MHz DDR2 - Double Data Rate).

Your BIOS may present you with various options for memory.
You may link or unlink the memory to the FSB.
I like the memory "unlinked" meaning you adjust the memory independant of the FSB for the CPU, then you are dealing with only one variable in an OC at a time.

You certainly may adjust the multiplier any way you wish, keeping in mind, the lower the multiplier the higher you have to raise the FSB.

What board are you using????

I am using a EVGA 680i SLi A1 board...

so what would i set my multiplier to get like 3.4?
would i set it like 400*8.5?

Really?
the stock speed is 3.00 Mhz...

You're the guy that bought the QX when everyone told him that the Q6600 would top out right around the same place, aren't you? Well, that's still true. The QX might go higher on really good watercooling or phase, but you're going to top out around 3.4-3.6 at the absolute highest on air, from what I've seen.
