After reading such postive reviews I am having second thoughts about purchasing a regular 6800. So far they get similiar scores in the tests avaiable. Do u think the 6800 (vanilla) is worth an extra $100 over the 6600GT?
 
performance to price ratio wise the GT OwNeZ! its an awsome card your basically paying 400 dollars for a stock ultra, where you paid 300 dollars for a radeon 9800xt Overclocked.



I mean for 300 dollars you got the card worth the money to have, but for an extra hundred bucks you could have spoiled your self and got a GT and overclocked it to an ultra and been strait for quite some time. I personnaly bought the ultra and overclocked it to 465/1200 so i got the best performance possible but also paid 505.95 for it. where you paid 300 dollars for a lesser performing card, but at the same time right now you can play any game i can just as well, just maybe not at as high of res or with max aa or af on.
 
If money is an issue... Simply because I can't just go out and spent an extra $100 for a faster card, I think buying the basic 6800 would be a better option than buying the 6600. The 6600 does have the limited 128 bit memory path while the 6800 has a full fledged 256 bit one. It does have only 12 pixel pipelines, but it is only $280 for the OC'd Chaintech or BFG models. It also depends on which flavor you want too. The PCI-E 6600GT will have the option to SLI and get more performance with another card, but the AGP version will not. If going for AGP, I'd stick with the 6800 basic. If you want PCI-E, the 6600GT could be a better option. It coes down to how much you want to spend and the performance you want. I'm waiting (and saving) for PCI-E versions of the 6800GT with SLI capability. My future hardware decisions will be based on SLI and hopefully Nforce 4 and AMD64.

A vanilla 6800 will outperform a Radeon 9800XT, easily. Even an OC'd one. That's something that's been making me cringe. Some one I know has a basic 6800 and my XT blows when compared directly, and I'm having a hard time waiting for what I want knowing that my card sucks. SIGH! Never gloat!!!!
