New Power Supply non generic?

Hey guys, right now iam trying to upgrade power supplies so my whole comp won't fry due to a generic one. Right now i have Codegen 400W ATX Power Supply For AMD/Intel, Model "ATX-350X1 Dual Fan" I heard its as generic as you can get. I was looking at an Antec P4 ATX12V 400 Watt Power Supply With 2 Fans, Model "SL400" which was going for $58 at newegg. What do you guys think? I'm not overclocking and i'm on a budget this is probably the most i can spend on one. But yea i don't do anything crazy with my comp really, normal use, i just dont want the power supply crapping out on me and spiking.
 
As long as you stick to the safe brands (like Antec), little can go wrong.

Generally yes but the Antec solutions line is just as generic as the codegon you are replacing. Either look at their truepower line or go for a quality yet inexpensive Fortron
 
Any suggestions? I want something under 60 bucks 400 W for P4. Fortron 400W Power Supply For Intel P4 and AMD XP CPU, Model "FSP400-60PFN RET" is the only one i saw around there but it doesn't have an overload protection which i heard is recommended.
 
erm, Mut the quicker you can replace that psu the better - codegen makes ok cases, but very poor psu's - that would do fine - for a door stop.
