new power plugs

Generally SATA drives require a SATA power connector. Western Digital has been the only manufacturer to my knowledge that had their drives including both connectors, but apparently with their AAKS line this has come to a halt. If there is another I did not know of, it would be great if someone could follow up with it.

I recently purchased more RE2 series (enterprise grade disks) which included both connectors. Since you were looking at Seagate ES you may want to look at some of WDs line of comparable drives. The part number comparable to that drive you're looking for would be WD4000YS.

Right at the beginning pretty much everyone was. I know I had some early SATA Maxtor drives that had both.

As an interesting aside, many of the first generation drives that had both the older, molex style plugs and the newer SATA power plugs, would be fried if you connected both. :p

So just connect one of the power plugs, if there exists more than one.

MrMike, this is the WD hard drive you were talking about:

Click on "View More Photos" From these photos it appears that it does not have the old-style plug.

I just bought a pretty nice new PSU last year...I don't understand why this is not compatible with any of the current hard drives. Since it is just for the power supply, and I assume voltage requirements are no different, is there a 50-cent adapter I can get to make my PSU work with this?
