New Phenom II build

I'm parting out my old PC and throwing together a Phenom II M-ATX build (Antec P182 is just too damn heavy loaded out).

Wondering if anyone has a mobo that 'supports 140W TDP CPUs' but doesn't have the updated BIOS for a X4 965 officially out yet. I ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-M Evo and scored a X4 965 (NIB) for $205 on Ebay and from what I've read thus far, since the board is 140W-ready but the BIOS doesn't include the 965 in the supported CPU list it'll show up as 'Unknown Processor Model' and possibly not work with Cool n' Quiet until the next BIOS update.

Anyone else in this 'situation'. I had a similar experience with my bro's computer not recognizing his 4850e being shown as 'Unknown' by his Gigabyte mobo (but still booting fine) then showing the correct model # after the next BIOS update.

Thanks!

I'd stick with the ASUS. They're pretty good about everything except RMAs :p

If the BIOS isn't out yet, it will be really soon. I don't have a 955, but I saw the day after the 955 went on sale ASUS already had a BIOS to support it for my board. Sorta odd there isnt a BIOS for the 965 yet for yours, though.

Yeah, I used to have an ASUS 7900GTX that had to be RMA'd. It was actually very reasonable (the first time).

I was going between this and the Gigabyte M-ATX 785 board but the SATA ports on the ASUS are in a much nicer position since I'm using a 4870X2 that would cover them on the Gigabyte.

I'm assuming they'll have a BIOS update out soon. There was a new one already today but no added CPU support.

Most motherboards that ship have bioses older than 4 months. Usually good to flash to the latest anyways.

I suppose it wouldnt hurt to try the latest bios with the CPU to see if it will work properly and they just haven't updated the support list documentation. ASUS is also known for doing extensive BISO testing, which is why sometimes it takes a bit to come out. So if ur really itching call their support and ask if they have a BIOS for ur board that will support the 965 already. most likely if its dif. from the latest one listed they'd be willing to send it to you. this is somewhat common practice but ASUS testing is pretty strict/top-notch.
