So my story of my new PC is as told, I won a raffle on Reddit to get a motherboard, a E7200 Wolfsdale, and 4gb of DDR2-800(all I had to pay was shipping, 20$. The mobo came was DOA). I then got a case, 9500GT, ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU, and a 400W powersupply from my boss (I work at a PC Repair store.) So total into this PC is about 100-150, and then I found a guy who was selling a 550ti, and he wanted to trade for 8GB of DDR-3 SO-DIMM, so I grabbed it from my store, and shipped, it. The 550ti is on its way out tomorrow, and I am very close to buying a Q6600, and swapping it for my E7200. What do ya'll think? Have I already sunk too much into this PC? So far I'm in about 250. The Q6600 would put it to 325.
Advice?

well i can do that, easy. but should i get the q6600? guy is selling for 75.

The G31 won't be overclocking your PC much. I'd say stick with the wolfdale and save up on a new MB/CPU/RAM combo.

Also, I've had issues with that specific motherboard. SC2 would run poorly with a discrete GPU. Swapped out the MB for a Gigabyte G41 and the issues went away. Could be just got a bad board though.

But the 550 is on the way already, and I really want to think ill notice a difference with the quad.

What resolution are you playing at?

The Q6600 isn't so much of an upgrade over the E7200 unless you can clock that to over 3GHz.

And that I think could be a bit difficult with your board.

Anyone know anything about overclocking this cpu? I wanna see what I can do with this pc

you should just save your money and buy a already made pc for like 400-500 bucks.
core i5 or i7 with a good video card.

There is a ton of discussion on this board over the attributes of the q6600, it is a proven overclocker and most run happily around 3.6 with good air cooling. Mine is still doing service in my wife's box and she has no complaints on it eve nnow.

It's still a good chip, but long in the tooth, an better than a duo core if you do anything other than single core gaming.
