Hey guys I currently have a desktop with

CPU - AMD athlon 64 3200 xp Socket 754
MOBO - Foxconn K8S755A
GPU - ATI X1650GT 512mb AGP
Ram - 2Gb Samsung DDR 400
HDD - Western Digital 250Gb SATA
PSU - 420 Watt

well it's been giving me a load of problems ever since I built it. Recently I get to my desktop but can't get any where from there. Thought it was a virus but my anti virus software was destroyed it says. Right before this I got a BSOD with code 0x0000000F4. I seem to have lost my copy of windows so I can't restore it. I tried booting it up in safe mode and tried to find the problem but still couldn't get past desktop. If any one has ideas on this that would be great.

On the other hand I have been looking at a new desktop I would really love a quad core system with 4gb ram and quad SLI but finances kinda limiting that lol.

I can spend probably between 600 - 1200 USD and I play games like oblivion, BF2, BF2142, BF1942, AOE3, and well Crysis. I would love to be able to play crysis without the koreans looking like the aliens and maybe play COD4.

Please help me out guys I have been looking on Newegg, IBUYPOWER, CyberPowerPC, any other websites would be helpful if you can't help me out with my pc problem or my new buy.

with 1200 you can get one hell of a good pc . Im not good with parts , but im sure a lot of people will help!

If you are not up to building your own again, you might consider something like a refurbished Dell XPS 420 or HP equivalent. Right now they have stock with Quad Core, 3GB, Vista Premium, 8800GT, and Blu-Ray drive for about $1,000. I have seen them down to about $700 with just a standard DVD burner.

Eh - I wouldve stayed away from Foxconn boards to begin with, but thats just me. Gettin rid of my Asus and goin to MSI.

If you're going to buy a system, I suggest you look at the business class models - HP's DC7700s run pretty smooth.

Assuming your not a fan boy one way or the other and assuming your running at 1280x1024 (since you didn't state a monitor res)
E8400 or a Q6600 (If I built my system on prices now, I would have gone with the Q6600)
X38 mobo
8800GT (or the 8800 512MB GTS it is about 10% faster than the GT, but about 10-15% more. The 320 and 640 MB GTSs are different. Do not get them period. They are much slower. If you post a link to a 320 or 640 MB GTS after I've said this, I'm gonna slap you. :p)

your favorit brand 500Gig HD

Corsair 620HX (brand REALLY matters on the PSU)

Your choice of case. (I like the P182)

Your choice of OS (If you plan to keep the system a while, I'd go 64 bit Vista)

If you go 64 bit OS, 2-2 Gigs sticks of DDR2 800 else get 2.

Optical drive
Not including case or OS your looking at... 850-900ish?

I wanted to get a Maximus Formula and go with the Q6600 but I just didnt have the money lol - I'm hoping once Intel releases their next architecture, the Quad cores drop a little more money

Hey guys is was one IBUYPOWER and just playing with the thing to see what i could come up with for 1200 bucks this is what I cam up with on the amd side.

320gb hard drive
hd 3870x2

how old are you? How do you feel about building your own computer? This way you can reuse some old parts and buy even better parts.

Hi there, I'm just giving you fair warning on using that mfg. There was a thread posted in the gadgets section that you might want to browse first. If I were you, I'd build my own PC since you've done it before. Recommendations that others already made are good choices.

Hey guys thx for the advice I'll have to read some more review of all the different pc building companies. As for building another on my own I'm a college student and well summer is coming up but i got summer quarter. So pretty busy with school. The last rig I built i have went through hell on so I probably going to try to limit building pc's as much as possible.

If you have any questions I can answer, don't hesitate to ask. :D

You should post in General Hardware for system building help, you'll probably get more suggestions there. Good luck:).

You forgot mobo? What about sound card or network card? Or use the integrated ones on the mobo... what about display (you gonna hook this badboy up to an HDTV or stick with a standard PC display, keyboard/mouse, disc drives (BR/DVD?)...

If hes recycling, then why include prices of HD and windows... or case. :p
