I just put everything together and the pc won't start (no fans going or anything)

Any ideas on what may be wrong?

could you post less info?

is there power at the outlet?

is the cpu in correctly?

is the HSF on correctly?

is there a fan on the CPU header on the mb?

do you have ram in it?

do you have a video card?

is the power button on the right pins?

is this a know good power supply?

are all the cables in the right place?

is the power supply on?

yes, there is power at the outlet
yes the cpu is in correctly
yes, the hsf is in correctly
yes, there is ram in it
yes, there is a vid card in it
yes, as far as i can tell the power button is on the right pins
its a brand new PSU from newegg (antec true power 430W)
yes, the psu is on

what cables are you talking about? the atx power to the mobo is in...

basically i just want to see power through it (fans spinning and what not) then I'll go from there

you're lucky someone even replied to your request. I just built a computer yesterday and it wouldn't turn on, bad psu it turned out to be. I've since replaced it and now the computer is screaming. I think you ought to recheck the pins for the powerswitch. get out the mobo manual and give it the ol' 1 2.

i checked to make sure the switch is on the right pins like six times...

I'm pretty sure my psu is good because my mobo has a little green light on it when it has power going through it

If I cant get it going today i'll probably RMA the mobo and see what happens

make sure the voltage switch on the psw is on the correct setting.

have you tried a light boot, i.e. just the cpu/hsf 1 sitck of ram 1 hd and the video card?

if the light is on and its not moving then its the switch. either you have a bad switch or you really dont have it on the right pins.

just had the same problem w/ my system. The light on the mobo turned on, but nothing else (actually, my fans started just a little bit, but that's beside the point) it turned out to be the way i screwed the mobo in. Make sure that it's not screwed directly into a metal back. For some reason, my case wasn't grounded or something and I had to use plastic screws, maybe that's your problem too?

it could be.. I'll test the psu when i get home and then test the mobo as well.. if they both work I'll pick up some plastic screws...

This is a great example of why a thread like this usually illicits negative responses. It could be several things that are causing a non-booting PC. You'll need to run through the usual trouble shooting steps...as it's not something an internet board can fix.

It's also my belief that if your building a PC yourself, you should be fully aware of what would cause a system not to boot, and be able to walk through the steps. If not, it's time to buy a prebuilt, or find some friends who do. I know this sounds terse, but there are quite a few posters on here that need to learn to do some troubleshooting themselves, instead of expecting hand holding all the time. I'm not directing this rant at anyone in particular. Maybe I'm just bitter from having done desktop support in the past and seeing how little work people are willing to do.

well the fact is that this is the third desktop I'm building for myself and I've never had this problem before

... so i wouldnt consider myself a total n00b

My fiancee has put three together herself without issue....and she knows very little. The number of computers someone put together has nothing to do with their skill level or knowledge.
