New PC performance a little low?

I purchased a Dell XPS 720 H2C from the Dell outlet. First thing I did after it arrived was wipe the HD's and loaded a fresh copy of Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1. I then loaded the latest drivers for the hardware, and then a registerred copy of 3DMark06. I ran all the 3DMark06 benchmarks using the default settings except for resolution which I set at 1920X1200 because that's native for my monitor. My 3DMark06 score was 14430. Does this sound about right based on my hardware/software?

Here are the specs:

QX6850@3.00Ghz
6GB Corsair Dominator DDR2@1066Mhz
2X250 GB SATA Hard Drive (Raid 0)
Dual 768MB Nvidia GeForce 8800 Ultra SLI
16X DVD +/- RW
48X CD RW/DVD
Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
2407WFP-HC 24"

I loaded up Crysis and patched it to v1.2. Set all settings to "High", no AA, and no extra config tweaks. The gameplay (FPS) however drops down to an almost unplayable level at times. I figured with this rig that Crysis should play a little smoother than it does...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I think your problem may be the game itself regarding your settings.

The Bad
The single-player story ends Will laugh at every CPU and GPU thrown at it No team deathmatch.

Is there any Dell bloatware on the system that may be slowing you down?

If not, try playing with some of the settings to get a usable framerate. The resolution you are driving it at may requie you to tweek some of your in game settings downward.

In the the OP he said he formated the drives. So there isnt any dell bloatware.

hmm seems a bit low, my Q9450 @3.62GHz with a single eVGA 8800GTS G92 (785/1100/1970MHz) and PC2-8000 memory under Vista U X64 I get around 16000 every time on default settings...

You should try overclocking your Ultras with rivatuner and do the 3dmark06 again...

BTW my system can play Crysis at 1920x1200 on mostly medium & a few high settings, even still playable with 2xAA

He could easily OC the CPU since the H2C is watercooled his QX6850 can hit wat 4GHZ? Then do an OC on his Video Card.

Yes and that's what I did, however a new problem has now cropped up!

Once I OC'd the CPU to 3.67Ghz, loaded up the Nvidia profile for 3DMark06, and run it at the default settings I was able to achieve a score of 17120 which is much closer to normal for my hardware. The PC flies along merrily for all normal Windows applications, but if I try to play games like Crysis or COD4 the system will spontaneously reboot after about 10-15 minutes of gameplay.

I'm now running seperate OCCT tests on both the RAM & CPU at different levels of OC because it appears my problem is heat related....

He is not running 3DM06 at default res, he is using 1920x1200.

You've got dual video cards in that system. Double-check and make sure SLI is enabled.
