New pc desk design help

Well I just moved into a new apt and need a desk.. I prefer a corner desk, anyone good at designing one that could help me out with dimensions? The room is weird so only one corner I can use. And there is a window in the middle of the wall. Here's a pic

If you have the money, Ikea has the Galant series corner desks you could use in your apartment.

I say "if you have the money" because you'll have to buy several different pieces to get the desk that you want, and all together, they aren't cheap. You could easily spend well over $300 to fully assemble the desk.

If you're looking for a different (cheaper) desk, it would help us to get the full dimensions of your room, if not with the dimensions of the area we'll have to work with.
 
there isnt a ikea around me.. there is a lowes and home depot though. only thing is one side is going to have to be short because the window seal sticks out and my bed is there. odd room its the only place for my bed to go. i wish there was away to build a desk virtually and see how it looks/fits in the picture. i wouldnt mind if the longer part took that whole wall up. im going to wall mount my lcd there so i can watch netflix from my bed, as you can see its not far away. i can get some dimensions just not sure how far i want it to be both ways. any thoughts?
 
Get the dimensions first. Any recommendations we make in this thread will be impacted by how much room we have to work with (literally, in this case).

Regardless, you'll likely have to order a corner desk online and have that shipped to you.

Why would I buy online when I can build it?
From the corner to the window it's 55" and the other I can go as long as I want.
 
That's why I'm looking for some help designing it, once I know what I need I can build it.
 
What kind of display setup will you have? You may want some sort of shelving to get a better monitor height.
 
I have a 23" dell that will be right above the longer part of the desk on the wall.
 
Uh that Window looks so high off the ground that it shouldn't prevent your desk from going as far as your bed goes unless you want a bar for a desk. Then I can maybe understand.

Also we're going to set up a desk with a 10' side by 55" side, since you can go as far as you want on the other side, 10' should provide ample room to handle anything you want to put on the desk. Plus we will help you build a hutch on that end as well, since the Window on the other end will limit how high you can go, clearly we have 10' worth of height to work with on the other end. How tall are you again? We might need to budget in a step stool/ladder so you can reach the top shelves.

All jokes aside. It's important to know the exact dimensions we need to work within' to help you build something. A 1/4" is just as important as a 1'.
 
Haha.. 55" is from the wall to the window/bed. Guess I should have said I don't want it to be against the bed, unless I use it for my nightstand hmm. And the other side I don't want going all the way to the door that's why I wish there was away to see it there first somehow. I would like a little room between the door and the end of that side. 75" would leave me enough space, it's 100" from wall to the door. Here are two more photos.

If you want the ideal ergonomic height it is fairly easy to figure out. When you are sitting you want your forearms to be level. The height of your keyboard and mouse should be the same as the arm rests on your chair. Your eye level should be slightly above the center of your monitor. You don't want to have to tilt your head up. Measure those out and build accordingly.

The height is the most important part like I said earlier. You can really make it as big as you want. If you only have one monitor and don't plan on adding more 5 feet long is probably plenty big.

For 1-3 monitors I would probably go with a shelf type desk. Have a lower level for your keyboard and mouse then a higher level in the back for your monitor.
 
I like the layout of the top of that desk but don't really like how it sits on a platform, someone suggested I use a door for the top? I though maybe I could build just a plain 5 foot desk on one wall and put a bookcase on the other, if like to see how it looks or a picture somehow first.
 
I found a guy who laminated a door and used his desk. Doesn't look bad I think

Not sure just found the pic on a workstation thread and said made from door and laminate.
