I upgraded my pc over the weekend and am having some trouble with the connection to my network. New pc is running vista x64. previous one was vista 32 (if that matters).

At first I was completely unable to get a connection to my router (Linksys 150N). tried manually setting the speed to 100 full, but no luck. Plugged back in a flaky linksys gigabit switch and was finally able to connect after manually setting the speed to gigabit. however, after restarting, I have to reset the connection every time in order to connect. I tried resetting the router and reflashing the firmware, but that hasn't had any affect.

Any ideas as to what I could try next? i'd hate to have to get a new router. the budget and the wife wouldn't be super agreeable to that.

Try using another nic if you have one laying around, just to try to eliminate the possibility of the onboard nic being faulty.

Tried another NIC, it wouldn't connect either. I'm guessing it must be the router as I have nothing left to test.

Been a couple of days since I've had a chance to post.

Tried a couple of different cables. uses a tester to verify the cables were working. I've tried a couple of different ports on the linksys. I'm kinda giving up on it. I'm not sure if a new router will fix the problem, but I don't know what else to try at this point.

Based on the recommendations here, I ordered a dlink 655. the problem is annoying enough for the wife she ok'd the getting a new router. I've not ever used dlink, so hopefully that goes well.

I got my new router last night. My htpc running vista hp connected immediately. My new computer won't connect at all.

the router shows that it's handing out an address to the computer, but the computer isn't getting it. I tried setting the ip address manually and reserving the ip address on the router, but that hasn't had any effect. I'm rather frustrated with this whole thing at the moment.
