I was wondering if you guys here at this wonderful forum could give your input on this. I am building my first PC, after a lot of reading this is what I have come up with. Most of this is from newegg. Please be brutally honest on the pros/cons of this setup, I will appreciate it. If anyone finds a good deal on one of those monitors let me know.

i'm not much of an intel guy...but i think that mobo will suck.

it'll be fine at stock speeds, but if you plan on OCing any, since it's just an intel mobo, it'll suck.

tell us what you plan to do w/ your computer, what is your budget, how long do you want this set up to last for, are there any particular upgrades you're thinking of down the road, any special considerations?

the more you help us, the more we can help you help yourself.

Well, you'll probably get a lot of people saying Pentiums are crap, go AMD64. But if that path isn't for you, then that system looks alright. All I can say is go for an ASUS mobo. They make the best Pentium motherboards by far - they take the technology offered through the chipsets to a new level. Great features, decent price, and great performance.

Change the mobo, and that would be a killer system.

Thanks guys

Well, currently Im working on my doctorate and stay very busy with school. In my free time (lol) I like to mess around on the computer, mainly internet, would like to get into video, and the occasional games like Doom3 and Halo. My system now is a joke, my xbox has more computing power. With the $1000 box i posted is pushing my budget to the max without the lcd, would love to be cheaper. A nice monitor means a lot to me. All of my friends and research into this has been into intel, so if someone would like to enlighten me on an AMD system go ahead. If the graphics and games run best on the AMDs I'll go that route, Im wanting this to be more of a multimedia PC. I need something for the next 2.5 years, after that I'll be out of school.

keep the input coming
