So my new Arctic Cooler 7 Pro came in today. It works wonderfully. With my old stock heatsink on my E6600 I had it overclocked to 2.6GHz and it idled at 42C. Here I am now with my E6600 overclocked to 2.8Ghz idling at 32C. Great cooler. So now here is my question. I have an Asus P5B-Deluxe and Corsair XMS 2 675 memory. I'm a little scared of going higher. Do you think with my CPU voltages at 1.264 I can hit 3GHz without raising the volts?

Here is what things looks like....

and just for fun.......

Not bad. increase vcore to 1.4v in bios, drop multi to 8x, and bump fsb to 400 and see what happens. Work with that first and then tune everything down right.

Ok, I bumped up the FSB to 333Mhz and it didn't like it. I have the voltage at stock, could that be the issue, or the memory?

give the memory a +0.3v boost so its at 2.1v. bump your fsb up to 360 because I'm curious to see if that corsair stuff can handle 900mhz.

it's less stress to run mem at 1:1. did you try that and 400fsb? you can try dropping multi to 8 like I mentioned. Would land you at 3.2ghz for the time being, although 3.6 is definitely possible, although that'd usually require at least a bit of vcore bump.

Raise your vcore to 1.4v for testing. With droop and just plain vcore differentials, you'd probably be seeing an actual vcore around 1.31v under load.

Do bump vdimm to around 2.1v-2.2v. It is well tolerated in ddr2, they can handle volts well. Not sure what chips your 675 has though, probably elpida or something, but 400 and 1:1 lands you 800 and 2.1v should definitely be possible.

Ok after the system reseted and overclocked my e6600 to 2.8Ghz it crashed. I restarted the computer and looked at CPU-Z and my memory ratio and is at 1:1 and the CPU running at 2.8Ghz. Great! It wasn't at 1:1 and at 310Mhz before. Now that I have it at 1:1 do you think i would be able to crank the computer up to 3Ghz without any voltage increases?

that mem should be able to do at least 800 on a 2.5(4:5) mem ratio.

i have the same memory as you.

corsair rep told me its a promos IC, and might be able to hit around 800mhz.

mine maxes out at 834mhz @ 4-4-4-12

currently running it at 800mhz @ 4-4-4-12

Most of these Allendales/Conroes can easily hit 3ghz without touching vcore. Otherwise 1.4v should be plenty. Shouldn't really need to do much other than keeping your ram at workable frequencies which just takes trial and error for the most part. Don't be afraid to try!

From what I can see i don't have that option. I've thought a read before that you have to push a certian keyboard button to get into the overclocking section of the bios on the Asus P5B Deluxe.

Ok, i found the option in the bios to adjust vcores and all. But it won't let me overclock the FSB? Why is that?
It does allow me to change the voltages on the FSB, DRAM, and CPU. You think it is a voltage issue why i can't overclock my CPU to 3GHz?
