I've been wanting to change the on switch on my pc. anyone know what specs i want to shop for? what is the name for the connection used to connect the power switch to the mobo? i've shopped a couple of general electronics sources, but the terms used in the specs and stuff is mostly giberish to me.

You will want a momentary or push to make or NO switch. Performance Pcs, FrozenCpu etc carrry them. Radio shack does also if you want the basic switch body. You will probably want a SPST switch also (single pole single throw).

what about the connectors on the mobo? those little post things, what is the name of that connection and what size is standard? know what i mean? i been browing http://www.digikey.com/ they seem to have a giant selection, but clearly i am ignorant about the terms and jaragon.

i just pilfer them from junk cases, they are just pinouts but i don't remember the exact size

The pitch you want is 0.1 inch (2.54mm)

Unfortunately it seems each manufacturer has a different name for connectors like that (that is connectors designed to go on plain pin headers and fit within the area allocated to the pins they plug onto).

Really it's a matter of going to rectangular connectors ( http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Cat=1442556 ) selecting the appropriate pitch and number of pins and then looking though the results for the connectors that look right.

Connector names in general are a PITA, many styles of connector are made by multiple manufacturers but have no generic name just a trademark name from each manufacturer.
