Ah! We fell for it - the old bait and...switch
I'll show myself out now
All the rumors of this upcoming Switch model were so far off that I don't trust at all that there is a more powerful Switch being made. Whenever the Switch 2 drops then we'll see a more powerful console. If anything the Switch 2 is in planning phases now with nothing concrete laid out yet about it. Seriously... nobody saw this OLED version coming... it doesn't even make sense honestly unless it replaces the existing Switch slowly over the coming months. The new OLED switch is only good news to people who haven't gotten a Switch yet or even if they were on the fence about it.Hopefully the rumored DLSS-equipped Switch is still in the works.
I think the chip shortage got em. Look for an OLED switch with faster guts to come out with BOTW2 releases, late 22 or 23.All the rumors of this upcoming Switch model were so far off that I don't trust at all that there is a more powerful Switch being made. So like the same demographic they always been targeting? Nintendo is not suppose to grow with you.
Breath of The Wild released on Wii-U at exactly the same timeI bought a wii-u specifically for the new open world zelda game they promised, then they delayed and delayed it until i had to buy a switch to play it. Lame.
For that matter, can we also have a moratorium on declaring that people aren't "real gamers" because they don't play certain kinds of games or use certain platforms?I play more games on Switch than I do on PC at the moment.
Of course, I also had a Pokemon themed wedding, zelda and mario tattoos, hundred+ dollar metroid and zelda statues, etc.
Anyone decrying games as "kiddy" though needs to grow the fuck up. Trying too hard to say other things are kiddy is the truly immature statement.
I just want my Nintendo games at a more consistent framerate, but if I can't get that - no problem, I'll play them as they are.
PC + Switch + PlaystationMy biggest issue is with people who consider themselves "PC Master Race" and think that consoles are, by default, bad. However, Ninendo Switch is the exception to the rule as Nintendo games are generally considered high quality and the Switch is considered a mobile console.
PC + Switch should be the default setup for a hardcore gamer.
I don’t think that was ever going to be a thing. At 10w the cpu and processor budget that DLSS would consume would be better served by a node shrink moving to A72 cores, and a Pascel based GPU then taking that combined savings for a slight increase in clocks. That would give better overall performance and graphical quality than DLSS at 1080p would provide. There is no GPU/CPU combination on the planet that would give acceptable 4K performance even with DLSS at a 10w power budget. Even if they managed to up that to 15w with a larger battery and cooling that would still leave them some 50w shy of what’s needed with current tech.Yeah, definitely won't be replacing my existing Switch for the OLED (I mainly play dock). Screen does look beautiful on this one though.
Hopefully the rumored DLSS-equipped Switch is still in the works.
Nintendo is taking the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" approach with regards to the OLED Switch. The Switch is still selling insanely well. I mean I am still surprised that there are AAA titles being ported over to Switch with no issue like Doom Eternal. So obviously the Switch has plenty of life in it as it is. With Nintendo as far as I am concerned it's always been about the games and not system specs. Nobody buys a Switch to play Doom Eternal, or whatever other AAA games are ported to it. People who buy the Switch want access to Nintendo's first party catalog and not to play the latest games in 4K so really this OLED switch is just Nintendo being Nintendo.Mobile graphics have come lightyears since Tegra/Maxell-based archetecture in Switch was introduced 5 years ago.
The version of Mario Kart on the Switch is still the same game as the WiiU version, Mario Kart 8. It came out in 2014.

I bought a wii-u specifically for the new open world zelda game they promised, then they delayed and delayed it until i had to buy a switch to play it. Lame. But the point is, the Mario game that came on wii-u, was a bit fun, but boring. I think when i beat it my first time playing, i had like 75 lives queued up. The game was meant for children. Thats been their model ever since, they don't make games for adults who grew up playing SNES. Sucks.
Lower rez and crappy audio? Yea no, i'm playing it on a switch.Breath of The Wild released on Wii-U at exactly the same time
Takes all kinds.I disagree.
There are two types of hardcore gamers. The kind that play one game at a time for thousands of hours and the kind that plays thousands of games but treats them as the flavor of the week.
Even for the second there are so many higher quality PC games they don't need a Switch or any console to keep them playing 24/7.
Can you play console games and still be a hardcore gamer? Absolutely. Is it required? HELL NO.
Takes all kinds.
There's also the kind of gamers like me who has limited time, but owns and plays games across all platforms and genres (including Switch). I like gaming like I like music: all genres on different systems.
Except for Manga-inspired games, because that's hot trash.
Like a lot of folks here, I used to be a "hardcore" gamer, then I graduated towards actually enjoying video games. I'm more interested in originality and "fun" now. Kind of like I use to play drums in a hardcore band, but now I enjoy all genres of music now.Yeah you're a gamer and you really like gaming, but are you really a "hardcore gamer" if you barely play any games or even just an average amount? That seems more like an average gamer than hardcore gamer to me.
Ah didn't realize that, yeah that sucks. The version of Mario Kart on the Switch is still the same game as the WiiU version, Mario Kart 8. It came out in 2014.
All you need now is a 2012 Vitara to play your 2012 Vita inside.I have a 2012 vita
It's really just a way to gatekeep to feel better about themselves... and let's be honest, it's also a convenient way to discriminate against different cultural groups while pretending it's just about dedication and skill.Who the fuck cares about so called "hardcore" gamer. It is a entertainment hobbies. Unless you are competing as you full time jobs. I do critiques why people enjoy some games but who the hell am I to judge. Play what you enjoy. Except he Xbox. Fuck that thing. The only thing really gets under my skin are the losers that scream PCMR.
and it's ONLY $300 ... wow toys sure have become super expensive these days
Had my Switch since launch and I've barely touched it. The games are overpriced and very "last gen". It's really just a toy for kids. If you find some extra value in it, that's cool, but that doesn't change what it is at It's core.My biggest issue is with people who consider themselves "PC Master Race" and think that consoles are, by default, bad. Your personal views don't apply to everyone. There are plenty of adults who enjoy playing on the Switch, including games aimed at adults; I'm six feet tall and don't have problems using the Switch in handheld mode.Had my Switch since launch and I've barely touched it. You literally have to have kid-sized hands to use the console for mobile use...

None of the other consoles or PC, can go handheld mobile. (and don't try to bring up those piece of shit chinese handheld PC abominations).Had my Switch since launch and I've barely touched it. They know we have disposable income and will buy for children, which is why stuff is so focused on kids. Hardly believe they released BOTW, I was not expecting that.Welcome, yet disappointing. I would pay $999 for an "adult" version of Nintendo hardware/software. They do realize we're all 40+ (4 O next week for me) now right? That were born into the NES?
And I'll laugh at you because consoles aren't PCs. It might be convenient for you to make that sort of comparison when having to buy peripherals. But since you started it...You can also buy one of the many, many, many switch grips that's out there, such as:
https://www.satisfye.com/products/zengrip-pro
(Which is, in my opinion, the absolute best one. Stopped hand cramps during multi-hour sessions of Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, etc. So very comfy.
Or even go all out and get something neat like the Hori Split Pad Pro:
https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Split-Ergonomic-Controller-Handheld/dp/B08FJ7XY3B
Also, if your rebuttal is "you shouldn't need to buy extra peripheriphals to make it comfortable" i'm going to laugh at you posting that on a fucking computer hardware forum.
Dude, I spent $150 on a fucking keyboard, then I liked it so much that I bought another one for my wife. Then she liked it so much that I bought another one for her cubicle at work. And I'll laugh at you because consoles aren't PCs. It might be convenient for you to make that sort of comparison when having to buy peripherals. But since you started it...
Why would anyone want to have to buy extra peripherals for an overpriced, tiny hunk of garbage with small overpriced library? Telling someone they just need to put a little extra spice on their turd sandwich isn't really a great argument. Adding grips doesn't change the fact that this is a console with a younger target audience than the other consoles, nor does it solve the million other problems with it.
But hey, cult of Nintendo.
