New OCZ ModStream PSU

WOW!! This is the PSU of my dreams. I cannot wait till its released because I am definately getting it no questions asked.

From their site on that PSU:

"3 Year warranty backed by OCZ’s exclusive PowerSwap replacement program. No more endless return-for-repair loops"

It’s that second sentence that makes you think, hard.

I guess it’s nice they upgraded the repair and turn around policy, it just disconcerting to think that they not only had to, but felt the need to announce it.

Probably must my natural cynical nature.

All OCZ powerstream PSUs have had that Powerswap program since day one. The no more endless return for repair loops statement is referring to other companies. The Modstream is just 3 years? The powerstreams are 5 year warranties.

actually its the same program
We offer 3-year unlimited warranty supported by OCZ Technology’s exclusive PowerSwap™ program with proof of purchase; additional 2-year limited warranty covers the labor cost (customer needs to pay for parts).

Awesome! Anyone know when this will be coming out? I was a bit hesitant about getting the Antec Neo 480w because of the 6800 Ultra I'll be running but this new OCZ one might be the answer!

and?

I didnt get the punchline with that statement
either supply is very likely up to the task

and the Neopower is an ATX12V v2.0 supply
while that doesnt appear to be the case with the ModStream making it v1.3

Ice Czar,

In your post from my thread, you said that the NeoPower would be pushing it if I let it get to 40C. My place gets pretty hot in the summer so I don't want to risk it. However, if the OCZ doesn't come out in the next couple of weeks, I will be going with the Neo. Thanks!

Huh?

The Antec Neo has two 12v rails. Since one goes to the mainboard/cards, and one to your peripherals, it's every bit as likely to be stable as the OCZ, perhaps more. The OCZ has only one 12v rail. I'm running the system in my sig on an Enermax Noisetaker AX 470w -ten watts less than the Antec, dual 12v rails, just fine, and I'm sure that while it's taking load, that I have power to spare.

Total wattage isn't the total story.

Actually, perhaps less, if one rail is overburdened (a very possible circumstance). Considering that processors and videocards draw heavily from the +12 volt line, and much from the same rail, it's quite possible, especially as we progress into SLI and other multi-GPU/CPU configurations.

I'm just happy someone put some thought into this one. The other premod modulers where lame.

This one has sleeved cables and the plugs are all on one side.
The stupid antec and ultra-x have the plugs spread across the entire back of the PSU, resulting in a nasty cable mess when they are all used.
This one at least, you can tuck and hide the cords. :D

Plus this one doesn't have the lame noise level of the PC P&C PSUs.

OCZ ModStream 520W: +3.3V(28A), +5V(52A), +12V(28A)

OCZ PowerStream 520w: +3.3V@28A, +5V@40A, +12V@33A

Those specs make no sense. Why would they lower the +12v to 28A and raise the +5v to 52A?

And i dont like the colors of the ModStream even though is modular. I'm planning to still go with a PowerStream 520w.
