New OC'd rig keeps crashing - why?

Hi everyone,
Ive come to you for advice, again, because my new rig keeps rebooting itself while everything is running =\ hardware is:

Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz 425FSB
P5q pro
G.Skill 1000Mhz ram
500W PSU
etc etc..

Anyways, my voltages are set to:
CPU = 1.2
CPU GTL = auto <-dont know what that is
CPU PLL = auto <- or that
FSB Term = 1.24
DRAM = 2.0
NB and SB = auto

I know that some of the voltages might be pushing it, but it seems to run P95 on stress test fine (i think the longest is about 5 hours for this OC). But i've now started running P95 for the primes and when doing that and a few other things, after a few hours my PC crashes and reboots itself (when i have music on, that schitses out for about half a second before dying).
Any ideas? I just bumped my vcore up a bit to see what happens

Would mean your OC is not stable. Try setting the NB to like 1.32 or something and leave SB on the lowest voltage.

Try running prime95 for 12h+, or at least 8 hrs. Then IBT if your cooler can handle it
 
Hmm.. that probably does need cooling, as ive got a hyper212 cooler, so the fan is mounted sideways...
Is that anywhere near the mobo temp sensor? (i assume its not) because im not getting any high readings on that..

Soulesschild: what are the safe voltages for a NB and SB?

EDITT: yea, P95 just stopped after a rounding error at 55 mins. Dont think any of this is due to CPU temps, as those are about 50C on load
 
Generally the SB doesn't need voltage...not that I've ever noticed. the NB I just crank it up until it's stable if I feel like I have enough vcore. But you do want to keep the NB temps down. So either put a fan on it or use some custom cooling. I used to use HR-05 SLIs on my old 680i board. Now I just ghetto mod an 80mm fan onto it :p
 
I find that the CPU PLL voltage can also help stability quite a bit. Try raising that to 1.6V and raise the FSB termination voltage to 1.3V, if the NB voltage adjustments don't do the trick.
 
At the moment the NB is at 1.1. But because it's on auto along with SB and CPU PLL, would it not just bump it up as needed? i dont see how setting a value would help..
 
Because the Auto setting is dumb, to put it simply, and it isn't really capable of adjusting the voltages properly. Controlling them manually lets you make sure that you aren't giving it too much or too little voltage, both of which can be detrimental to your hardware.

Ill set NB to 1.3, Sb to the lowest, FSB term to 1.3 and ill see about CPU PLL, some say it helps and some say it doesn't.

edit: ok well it booted =) ive got P95 running now. We'll see how it goes, might have to get back to you in the morning.

BTW, set CPU PLL to 1.56, FSB Term to 1.3, NB to 1.36 and SB to 1.1
 
Morning guys, for me anyway =P

P95 is still going strong and has been running for the past.. 10 hours or so. The next step is probably to see what voltages i can get away with lowering.. Any suggestions on which ones might have a little headroom?

Im gonna run IBT for a while and see what happens. Will stop if it gets to 65 - 70C
 
Vcore: 1.2
CPU PLL: 1.56
FSB term: 1.24
ram: 2
NB: 1.26

IBT just did 10 rounds and no errors.. Got to 62C on the hottest core
 
VTT... Well yea, it's at 1.24 atm..

Soulesschild: what are all your voltages like? i might try 3.8 just for kicks
 
Wow, ok. Just had things crashing all around me.. Sound gone weird, rocket dock closed itself and refused to open, iTunes had to close, firefox crashed and would not restart (kept crashing) and when i tried to reboot, i got a 0x0000007F error. Im going to try memtest and see what that gives me
 
Ok i have gotten hold of a small HDD fan. I will use this and try to get some air moving over the area that hstuehmeyer2000 said.
hstuehmeyer2000: would that area overheating cause the problems ive posted?
